Eulogy for Michael Peter Mancos by his Aunt Marilyn
45 years ago on April 2, 1968 - the lord graced our family with the gift of new life, my godson & nephew Michael Peter. Michael endured many struggles in his life, but I would rather share the moments in his life in which he graced his family with love & pride - like when he made his first hit at the Duryea Little League field. How elated he was - how proud we were!
And when he became an altar boy on this very altar at St Anthony's Church & crowned Christ the King. Pride & joy again for our family, especially Grammie & Poppy.
I recall his mom (my sister) telling me that during one of the masses he was assisting at, Father Chini (pastor of St Anthony's at the time), during the consecration, was placing the host back onto the plate & it made a slight sound. Michael thought that father dropped it & someone near Michael overheard him whisper "Jesus says ouch"! This showed Michael's belief & love for Jesus. That expression of faith I will NEVER forget.
At one point in time, I thought (hoped) that Michael become a priest - but the lord had a better plan - he made him an angel.
Also, another special moment which showed Michael's faith & love was when I gave Michael a one decade rosary a few years ago & asked him to carry it with him always & keep it in the palm of his hand when he was feeling down. His mom shared with me one day he came home from work, holding this rosary in his hand, but he was crying saying that " I lost Jesus" (referring to the crucifix that was missing). His mom in comforting words said to Michael "Michael, you didn't lose Jesus - it was then that he entered your heart".
Other loving moments included his graduation from Pittston Area High School in 1986 with honors & a scholarship to Penn State University & later graduated with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. A few years later he attaind his masters degree.
MIchael kept to himself quite a bit, but at times he did speak of his loving friends & co-workers at Tobyhanna Army Depot, as expressed in their condolences online for Michael & our family.
Lastly, I would like to thank MIchael Peter for being such a devoted & loving son for administering loving care to his mom, (my sister), especially the last 15 years of her life.
Michael Peter, you have attained & been blessed with the highest & most worthy degree anyone can ever hope for & that is your "Master's" Degree in Heaven. May your family & freinds who are resting in the Lord be there to welcome us when we hopefully attain our "Master's" degree in Heaven.
On behalf of myself & my family, I'd like to express our deep & loving appreciation to all who shared in our sorrow through cards, masses, prayers, attendance at the viewing, and online condolences.
Like mom would always say "I don't like goodbyes". So it's "until we meet again"!
We love you MIchael, rest in peace in the Lord.
