Roger Elliot "Butch" Burkhart, age 69, a resident of Pasadena for 22 years, and formerly of Curtis Bay, died on October 31, 2015 at his home.
Born on August 15, 1946, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Irene and Woodrow Burkhart, he completed high school while serving in the US Army; serving in Thailand from 1964 until 1965, and then in Viet Nam until 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign and Service Medal, the Driver Badge with Bars, and the Purple Heart. After the war he worked as an industrial maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Stoney Creek Fishing and Hunt Club, and, of course, loved spending time with his friends and family.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his step father Peter M. Baum; his sister Phyllis Wood; and two brothers: Charles B. Burkhart and Floyd Kent "Kenny" Burkhart.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years: Mary N. Burkhart; four sons: David Burkhart and his wife Stacey, of Umatilla, Florida, Brian Burkhart and his wife Carrie, of Savannah, Georgia, Floyd Burkhart, of Pasadena, and Keith Burkhart and his wife Lisa, also of Pasadena; four sisters: Shirley Cameron, of Mundy's Corner, Pennsylvania, Judy Rose, of Revloc, Pennsylvania, Irene Lee, of Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania, and Patricia Howey, of Middletown, New York; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. His funeral service will begin at 7:30 PM on Wednesday during the evening visitation hours, with Rev. Doug Alberts officiating. Please feel free to express your condolences here as well.

I was totally shocked when I Mary Norma called me and told me you had passed. Your watch is over, you served your country well. You will sorely be missed as you were a driving force for me to go into the Army. As I went in during Vietnam as you were already over there. Thank you for being able to know you and you being my brother in law. May God watch over you and the family. We now have another angel in heaven watching over us. Rest in Peace brother. Present Arms Recover.
