John Howard Bunn, age 67, a resident of Orchard Beach for 42 years, died on November 21, 2012, at his home after battling cancer for three years.
He was born on July 18, 1945, in Baltimore, to the late Theresa and Gerald Bunn. After attending Baltimore Polytech Institute, graduating in 1963, he entered work at the US Coast Guard Yard as an apprentice, then as an electrician, retiring in 2006. Along with the USCGY retirees association, he belonged to the Pasadena Sportfishing Club, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, photography, and tinkering; and as a man of God, enjoyed his church and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his nephew Gerry Bunn, his cousin Bob Bonner, and his sister in law “Chotsie” Bunn.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years: Barbara Bunn; four sons: Patrick Bunn and his wife Julie, of Gambrills, John D. Bunn and his wife Jessica, Samuel Bunn and his wife Mary, and Matthew Bunn, all of Pasadena; three daughters: Tricia Lascola and her husband Joseph, of Severna Park, Rachel Daley and her husband Lawrence, and Sarah Sammer and her husband Jacob, all of Pasadena; his brother and sister Gerald William Bunn and Suzanne Bunn; eighteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM on Tuesday, with burial to follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute to Hospice of the Chesapeake at hospicechesapeake.org and feel free to express your condolences here as well.

Mr. Bunn was such a pleasant person to be around. He was always cheerful and entertaining and interested in solving any kind of problem. He raised such a wonderful family. We will miss seeing him, but we're happy to think about all the fun he's having in heaven now with God.

I met John in 1963 while we were apprentices at the Coast Guard Yard. He was an interesting guy to talk to; very intelligent and witty. I'm so sorry to see him taken by a dreadful disease.

Jay was a fine man whom I enjoyed talking with many times. As Patrick''s father-in-law I had the pleasure of attending various Bunn family gatherings and usually sat somewhere on the side of the large crowd, out of the way, with Jay. Always bright, always cheerful, he was a stimulating conversationalist. His warmth for everyone and his love for his family and for God was constant. Anyone who knew Jay will miss him. Blessings on him, on Barb, and their entire family.

It was indeed a pleasure to have known JB (as we called him at the Yard) for the last 20 years. He was a man who spoke warmly of his family and strongly of his faith in God. He never failed to amaze and amuse with his various ideas, inventions and unique way of looking at life. We will miss you John.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathies in the loss of your dear loved one. How comforting in knowing Almighty God has not only the power but also the desire to resurrect our loved ones. Jesus himself said: "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5:28,29
