John R. Seman, 88 of Wyoming, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1929, in Pittston, to the late John G. Seman and Mary Pribula Seman.
He was a graduate of St. Cecelia’s grade school in Exeter and Sacred Heart Mission House in Girard, Pa.
John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1950 and served during the Korean War on islands off the coast of North Korea until the armistice was signed. Upon his return from service, he worked as a machinist at Atlas Chain and Midway Tool and then as sexton of St. John the Baptist Church, Exeter into and during his retirement.
He was a member of St. Barbara’s Parish (former St. Cecelia’s), Exeter, past president of the Holy Name Society, a long-time member of the church choir, and an altar server.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Joseph B., Steven M., Thomas J. and Richard J. Seman, sisters; Anna Mae M. Wagner, Marie and Theresa Seman, stepson David DeMark and grandson Matthew DeMark.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dolores DeMark Seman and son, John Patrick, Lansdale, Pa; stepchildren Karen Foglia, Exeter, Pa and Carmen DeMark; brother Bernard Seman and wife, Geraldine, Palm Bay, Fla, and sister Regina Romani, West Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 5pm-8pm at Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Avenue, Exeter.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 9:00am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30am at St. Cecelia’s Church, Exeter.
Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Slovak Cemetery, Exeter.
