Joseph M. Gibbons, 86, of Inkerman, passed away on Saturday Dec. 7, 2013 at the Celtic Hospice of Geisinger South Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Judge Gibbons. He lived in Inkerman all his life, and was a member of the former St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during World War II. He was also a member of the Port Griffith American Legion.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Gibbons had worked at Continental Cigar Co., Moosic.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Robert and John Gibbons and sisters Mary Trotter, Eileen Roxby, Lillian Greene, Elizabeth Romanouski, and Rita Parrick. He was also preceded by his father and mother in law, William and Dorothy Swanek and a brother in law Stanley Swanek.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Dorothy Swanek and by a daughter Dodie Marks and her husband Patrick, York, PA. Also by his beloved grandchildren, Joey and Elizabeth Marks, his sister, Margaret Nix, Cheshire, CT., sister in law Susan Swanek, Avoca and numerous nieces and nephews
Military funeral services will be accorded by the AmVets Honor Guard on Tuesday at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 9am until time of services at 10am at the funeral home by the Rev, Thomas Looney, King's College
Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
