Genevieve “Gen” Zendian, 101, of Wyoming, passed away Friday April 25, 2014 at the Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glen Lyon, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna Romatowski Borkowski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1968, and sisters Florence, and Eleanor Borkowski and a brother Chester Borkowski.
Her long life was devoted to her faith in God, Church and her family. She lived to be 101 years old, long enough to hold her first and only great granddaughter Kayla, whom she adored. Even during her most difficult trials, she insisted on going to Mass every week until January of this year when she experienced new challenges. After Mass, she looked forward to the greetings and love given to her by her church family. She would have been 102 years old in June 2014.
She worked at the Duplan Silk Mill and the Silk Mill on First Street in Wyoming. After her husband’s death, she worked in the former Isaac Long’s and the Hollywood, Wilkes-Barre.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne Zendian, R.N., Wyoming and Carol Smith and her husband Kevin, Jenkins Twp., her grandson, Atty Kevin M. Smith, and his wife Karen and her great granddaughter Kayla.
A most sincere thank you is extended to her physician, Vincent A. Drapiewski, M.D., who provided her medical care for many years; Fr. Joseph Sibilano, O.S.J., who ministered to her spiritual needs, the nurses and staff at Personal Care Home Health Services, the Social Concerns Committee, who prayed for her and the Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion from St. Barbara’s Parish who brought Jesus to her on First Fridays and all the nurses and staff of Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice who tended to our Mom and us during her stay in the inpatient hospice unit. They were all Angels of Mercy and Compassion to our Mom and us.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 11:00am until 12:00pm at St. Barbara Parish at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 28 Memorial St., Exeter. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at noon with the Rev. Joseph Sibilano, O.S. J., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gen’s name to the Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of Wilkes-Barre, 900 Rutter Ave., Suite 8, Forty Fort, Pa. 18704
