Betty May Appel, age 88, a resident of Pasadena for 62 years, and previously of Baltimore, passed away at her home on March 2, 2018 after a six week illness.
She was born on January 28, 1930, in Baltimore, to the late Henrietta M. (nee Butterfield) and Charles J. Gatton. After finishing high school, she earned her Associates Degree in Business Administration, and went on to work for the Westinghouse Corporation. She was a member of the St. Jane Frances Prayer Group and Bereavement Group, and enjoyed her Bible study, reading, knitting, travelling, and spending time with her family.
Along with her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years: Theodore A. Appel.
She is survived by her sister Mildred Kurtz, of Sunrise Senior Home; her three daughters: Nancy Curtis, of Florida, Patricia Macola, of Riviera Beach, and Verna Murphy, of Delaware; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Monday from 5 to 9 PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM, at which time the procession will leave the funeral home to go to St. Jane Frances Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM, with Monsignor Carl Cummings officiating.
