Joan M Lenivy age 86 of Pasadena, wife of the late Frank C Lenivy, died Wednesday November 25 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Born June 26, 1929 in Catonsville Md, she was the daughter of Stanley and Ruth Gearhart of Catonsville and a 1947 graduate of Catonsville High School.
Mrs. Lenivy spent most of her working career as a bank teller with 1st National Bank and Maryland National Bank in Catonsville. Mrs. Lenivy was always a huge Oriole fan and upon her retirement in 1987 she was presented a baseball by former center fielder Kenny Singleton signed by Cal Jr., Billy, and Cal Sr. when all three were briefly playing for the team.
Mrs Lenivy enjoyed being around others and decided that retirement was not for her. Being a child of depression era parents, she appreciated the satisfaction of staying busy and went back to work and was employed by Dr. Jeffrey Greenstein D.D.S. of Pasadena Md. until November 2015 where she worked as an office assistant. She always loved being around other family members and enjoyed family reunions and events. She was a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 2462. In earlier years she was leader of a majorette group associated with the Ellicott City Md VFW.
Mrs. Lenivy was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Pasadena for more than 25 years where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed going on trips with other church members and recently went to see the story of Joseph at the Sight and Sound theater in Lancaster Pa.
Mrs. Lenivy was predeceased by her parents, husband, and three brothers Stanley, Robert, and Marvin Gearhart and stepson Frank Lenivy Jr. of Tunkhannock Pa. Mrs. Lenivy is survived by her two sons, Alan Freed and his wife Jane of Havre de Grace, Clayton Freed of Rising Sun, daughter Erin McNamara of Grasonville, and daughter in law Mary Pat Lenivy of Tunkhannock Pa. as well as four sisters, Catherine Robinson of Mt. Airey Md, Marlene Leyh of Marriottsville, Brenda Landrum and her husband Luke of Dayton, and Mary White of Salisbury Md, and seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lenivy's last wishes were to have a celebratory church service on a Sunday afternoon at the Community United Methodist Church. Her Memorial Service will be held at the Community United Methodist Church, Pasadena Md. on January 17, 2016 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, all donations should be made to the church and choir, and finally P.S. no sad music please!
