Valerie Anne Gray, resident of Riviera Beach, Maryland, died suddenly on May 2, 2015 at her home. She grew up in Riviera Beach and graduated from Northeast High School in 1995. She attended Anne Arundel Community College and graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a degree in teaching in 2001.
She taught Social Studies at the middle school level in Dorchester and Baltimore Counties in Maryland. She later relocated to Roanoke, Virginia where she taught for one year in the Roanoke City school system. She returned to Maryland in 2013 and finally settled in Riviera Beach.
Anyone who knew Valerie knew of her abiding love of animals and, in particular, for her two boxers, Harley and Oliver. They were her constant companions and a source of endless entertainment and comfort to her.
Ms. Gray is survived by her mother, Linda Gray of Pasadena, a sister, Kimberly Churchill of Matthews, North Carolina, an aunt, Ann Marie DeBiase of Catonsville, and her fiance, Eric Strauss of Riviera Beach.
Her memorial gathering will take place on Thursday from 4 until 5 PM at the funeral home, with the memorial service to start immediately following at 5PM. Those who wish may contribute to Boxer Rescue organizations, which can be accessed via www.marylandboxerclub.com - click on rescue; there are two organizations that you can donate to. Feel free to leave your condolences here as well.

I'll always remember my daughter's best childhood friend as care free, loving and a great sense of humor! I pray for you all as you struggle to find peace in this very deep loss! Val grew up to be such a sweetheart and I know she was in a lot of pain! I pray that God gives her family peace that passes all understanding and let's you remember the wonderful girl that had the gift to make us all laugh!

Val- Madonna, oven mitt puppet shows, turkey drumsticks (which I still crack up at), swingsets, bikes to the beach, voting for Dukakis, your kindness, your beauty (wished I could be as beautiful as you!) one of the smartest people I've ever met, your awesome sense of humor, all the great memories (and some harsh realities) every lesson you have gently and probably unknowingly taught me and especially your spirit, your fight. You always have and always will inspire me-thank you is not enough. You and yours will always have a special spot in my heart....I will miss you...you don't have to fight anymore, rest easy and may angels lead you in...all my love and gratitude---Melody

Valerie and I worked together quite a few years ago in Manassas. My heart aches knowing she is gone and I think about her daily. My deepest sympathies go to you all. The world has become a darker place without her. I knew that when I had my days she would understand as I used to tell her we were related. She changed my life having her in it . I am so sorry I was not able to go to her services as my son was graduating college. I love you Val may you rest in peace my friend!

I had no idea that we lost you and I am sorry to have missed your service. I remember the first time that we met and how happy and excited I was to see you for that introduction and every visit thereafter. Bless you and your kind heart. You are gone too soon but I pray that you are happy and at peace. I'm grateful to have had you in my life.

Oh WoW! I cant believe I just found out! I Originally knew her as "Dodge girl" in Chesterfield where we lived in the same building. She always had a great heart and we always picked up like we never went astray. I will miss her!
