John Gilbert Szuba, 87, a resident of Pasadena for 54 years, and previously of Curtis Bay, died on July 7, 2013 at the shock trauma center after suffering injuries from an automobile accident.
He was born on November 23, 1925, in Baltimore, to the late Marcella and Michael Szuba. He attended St. Athanasius School, before joining the US Army, serving in WW II between 1944 and 1946. Over the years he worked in several occupations: as a roofer, a trucker, in a gas station, and most recently, as a water technician at Ft. Meade. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, VFW, and the Knights of Columbus, and served as an usher at St. Jane Frances Church for many years. He enjoyed coin collecting, crabbing, gambling, the Baltimore Colts, and taking care of his granddaughter.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 53 years: Mary Patricia “Sally” Szuba; three brothers: Stanley, Joseph, and Carl; and two sisters: Tilly and Mary.
He is survived by his daughter Patricia Cowan and her fiancée Dave Lathe; his son: John Szuba, Jr and his wife Denise; granddaughter Shannon Holford and her husband Robert; grandson Christopher Szuba; and two sisters: Helen and Bernadine.
Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena. The procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 AM to go to St. Jane Frances Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, with Monsignor Carl Cummings officiating. Those who wish may contribute to the Alzheimer’s Association, and you may express your condolences here as well.
