On December 6, 2012, Emily Ruth Haney, better known as “Dolly the mail lady,” for 63 years the beloved wife of Gilbert George Haney; passed at the age of 80. She was the loving mother of Skip Haney and his wife Carol, Barb Macks and her husband Terry, Ken Haney and his wife Mary Lou, Tim Haney and his wife Angie, and Dennis Haney; dear grandmother of Jason, Jennifer, Raymond, Alexis, Jared, Tim, Nick, Josh, and the late Dennis Haney, Jr.; devoted step grandmother of Craig Macks, Odessa Armstrong, and Tamara Foulk; proud great grandmother of Patrick, Cayla, Timothy M. Haney, Jr., Riley, Brayden, Sophia, and Avery Haney; and dear sister of Mary Gillin.
Born June 9, 1932, Dolly was a very hard working lady in addition to the large family. Dolly spent 20 years in the private sector working for the Princess Shop as an assistant buyer of childrens ware, then at the Hecht Company. However, Dolly was best known for her nearly 25 years in the US Postal Service where she was a City Carrier in the Riviera Beach area, having delivered mail through multiple generations. She was an upbeat, spirited lady who loved her customers and job. Dolly started in the 60’s when many jobs were still believed to be a man’s job, although she strived to be the best carrier, sharing her love of life.
Throughout her life Dolly juggled work with family. She stressed the Catholic Faith, sending her children to Catholic schools and Sunday Masses. Dolly kept her children focused on education and “being the best you can! Never quit!”
Dolly’s love was Gilbert, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She dearly loved all children. Her spirit was always bright. To many of us, she was our best friend, mom, grandmom, and wife. You are never prepared for the loss of a loved one, but God is always prepared to help through the loss; may he begin the healing in our hearts and soul.
Her funeral will begin from the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Monday at 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jane Frances Church will follow at 11 AM, with interment in Meadowridge Memorial Park. Family requests friends visit on Saturday from 7 to 9 PM and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM, and you may express your condolences here as well.
