Matthew J. Mattson, Jr., “Bud” age 92, a resident of Pasadena for 27 years, and previously of Rosedale, died on June 12, 2012 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center of congestive heart failure after a 7 week illness.
He was born on February 13, 1920, in Baltimore, to the late Bertha A. (nee Hayes) and Matthew J. Mattson. He attended school at City College through 11th grade, then enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Machinist’s Mate First Class from 1940 until the war ended in 1945. He then worked for Coca Cola for 2 years, Exxon for 11 years, and AT&T (Western Electric) for about 28 years. Bud enjoyed crabbing, Pinochle, and video poker, and was an active member of the VFW in Pasadena, the St. Jane Frances Seniors, and the Democratic Club.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Carolyn McPherson.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Margaret E. Mattson (nee Spahn), his son Kenneth V. Mattson, of Pasadena, his daughter June E. Mattson, of Hyattsville, 1 grandchild and 2 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 12:30 PM in St. Jane Frances Church. He will be buried in Gardens of Faith Cemetery following the Mass.
