To my family,
My Uncle Jimmy has always been very special to me. He was always so much an inspiration as I was growing up. I idolized him because he was always such a happy man. He took very good care of his family and his extended family in so many ways. Growing up with Uncle Jimmy around was always such a pleasure. He could belch out a laugh that was so intense you just had to smile and laugh with him. He joked constantly and was always trying to get someone''s goat. Most of all of us were tricked by his jokes at one time or another.
We spent most of my life vacationing together as a family down on the Eastern Shore. It just wouldn''t have been the same without Uncle Jimmy being there with us. Each year he would always say he caught the biggest crab until we starting getting older and then he would still say he caught the biggest crab. A no win situation with Uncle Jimmy. He made a vacations very special.
As I reflect on his life I see a self made man who was always true to his word. A protector and a friend. I will miss this wonderful man.
My sincere and I mean sincere sympathy to his family and to all of us who where lucky to have him in our lives. God Bless you all, and God Bless you Uncle Jimmy. Love you, Owen

I know this is very late but I only recently received notice that Wheel’s had passed away. On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our most sincere condolences and sympathy to James Jerome, Katherine, Mary, Stephanie, Loretta, and all of Wheel’s family and friends in this time of sorrow and grief. I pray that God will bless you with peace, comfort, and the healing of your broken hearts. We are especially thankful for John’s service to our country during WWII. Wheel’s served on the minesweeper USS Falcon AM-28/ASR-2 QM2 ‘42-43, amphibious force flagship USS Catoctin AGC-5 QM2 ‘44-45, Plankowner, and the Submarine USS Irex SS-482 ‘49-50. To our “Brother of the Dolphin” we say … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."
So, heavenly Father add his name to the roll
Of our departed shipmates still on patrol.
Let them know that we who survive
Will always keep their memories alive.
Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigil keep.
May peace their mission ever be!
Protect each one, we ask of Thee.
Bless those at home who wait and pray
For their return by night and day.
James John Woomer, QM2(SS), US Navy, Now on Eternal Patrol.
Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmate
His record is now posted online in the Eternal Patrol file on the USSVI website.
