Joseph Emmett Holthaus, age 83, a resident of Riviera Beach for 56 years, passed away at Locust Lodge Assisted Living on August 25, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

He was born on March 19, 1935, in Baltimore, to the late Mary Beatrice Ryan and Emmett Robert Holthaus. He worked for many years at the David Edwards, Ltd upholstery company. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, and enjoyed many sports, including bike riding, swimming, motorcycles, basketball, golf, football and baseball.

Along with his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his four brothers: John Ryan, Francis Rhody, James McCall, and Louis Martin Holthaus; his sister in law Cynthia Holthaus; and his brother in law Frederick C. Byrnes.

He is survived by his sister Mary Alice Byrnes, of Riviera Beach; his brother: Father Paul Gabriel Holthaus, of Timonium; six nieces and two nephews and their spouses and many great and great great nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly.

Family requests friends visit the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. On Wednesday the procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM to go to a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held in St. Jane Frances Church at 11 AM, with Father Paul Holthaus officiating.
