Charles Edward Reed, age 83, a resident of Pasadena for 49 years, and previously of Baltimore, passed away on July 18, 2017 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park.
He was born on August 11, 1933, in Baltimore, to the late Virginia and John Reed. At age 19, he entered the US Army, 13th Infantry Regiment, serving as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict. During this time he also served as an assistant Chaplain and company Clerk. He went on to college to study Criminal Justice, and served in the Baltimore City Police Department from 1956 until his retirement as a Sergeant in 1990. During his career he patrolled as a beat officer, performed juvenile counseling, 911 communications, and radio repair.
Along with his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years: Joan Elaine (Kemper) Reed, who passed in February of 2014.
He is survived by his two loving daughters: Kathleen M. Strand and Evelyn A. Dieterich; his two devoted sons: Charles R. Reed and Christopher J. Reed; his six granddaughters: Melissa, Jennifer, Rebecca, and Emma Reed, Jessica and Monica Dieterich; his grandson Davey Belford; and his two great granddaughters: Hailey and Lillian.
The family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. The procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Friday to go to St. Jane Frances Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM. His burial will follow, with military honors, in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
