Charles William Lipford, "Sarge", age 83, a resident of Brooklyn Park for 15 years, and previously of Pasadena, died on May 28, 2014 at his home after suffering from congestive heart failure for the past three and a half years.
He was born on July 10, 1930, in Chester, South Carolina, to the late Ethel and Charles Lipford. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Army in January of 1951. Serving for more than 20 years, First Sergeant Lipford earned numerous awards and commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal with silver clasp - 1 loop; Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster; National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster; and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was extremely loyal to his family and friends, helping them with whatever they needed and whenever they needed it.
Along with his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years: Joan Lipford, who passed in 2004.
He is survived by his two sons: Keith and Brian Lipford; his two daughters: Susan Dunnigan and Diana Levine; his brother Dennis Lipford; his two sisters: Gloria Happel and Pamela Glasgow; and seven grandchildren.
Family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM.
