John Ival Bass, age 84, a resident of Pasadena for 49 years, died on May 31, 2012 at his home.
He was born on January 10, 1928, in Kayford, West Virginia, to the late Margaret and Jerry Bass. After serving as a Corporal in the US Army, he worked as a dispatcher for Preston Trucking, and in the personnel division of the Baltimore Sunpapers. He donated his time as a cubmaster and scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed gardening and painting.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years: Geraldine C. Bass; his sister Laura Seal; and three brothers: Norman, Kermit, and Jerrry Bass, Jr.
He is survived by his four sons: John Bass, Jr. of Pasadena, Jeffrey Bass and his wife Debbie, of Glen Burnie, James Bass and his wife Terri, of Pasadena, and Jay Bass and his wife Sue, of Pasadena; two brothers: Jack Bass of Norfolk, VA and Dennis Bass of Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Jr., Justin, Jordan, Jessica, Joe, Julie, Mary, Chris, and Heather, and two great grandchildren.
Family requests friends visit on Saturday from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12:30 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Joe Cadden officiating. His burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Park, next to his wife.
