He was born on January 12, 1921, in Linthicum Heights - Ferndale to the late Elizabeth and Lawrence Snyder. After school, he enlisted in the US Army, serving as a private first class during WWII, in the European Theater until 1945, receiving a Purple Heart. After the service, he joined the Baltimore City Fire Department, as a pump operator, until 1967, when he was injured while saving four children from a burning building. Retired from the fire department, he worked as an electrician’s helper for Edison Electric until 1977. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years: Marie Harriett (Rapp) Snyder; great grandson Jason Slaughter, and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter Joan Collins, of Finksburg; son Charles L. Snyder, of Millersville; and his sister Dorothy Kerler, of Severn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, and he will be buried, with military honors, in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville. Family requests friends visit on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
