William Richard Nelson, age 88, a resident of Pasadena for three months, and formerly of Spearfish, South Dakota, died on September 6, 2015 after suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for several years.
Born on December 3, 1926, in Spearfish, SD, to the late Ethel and Charles N. Nelson, he served in the US Army from 1950 until 1952. He later went on to work as a grocery store meat cutter while raising his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and, of course, spending time with friends and family.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years: Jane Ann (Harwood) Nelson; two sons: William James and Roger Gary Nelson; his grandson Shawn Nelson; two brothers: Charles and George Nelson; and his sister Rose Marie Nelson.
William is survived by his son Thomas Nelson, of Spearfish, SD, his daughter Nancy Portz, of Pasadena, MD; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
