Doris Lee Church Benge
Doris Lee Church Benge, 65 of Lonnies Way, died on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Autumn Care of Mocksville. Born in Guilford County, on July 31, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Howard Kindley and Rettie Geneva Hughes Kindley. She worked as a machine operator in the cotton textile industry, and was of the Baptist faith.
A Celebration of Life Service was conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Church and Rev. Daniel Gamble officiating. Burial followed at Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee, NC. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Davie Funeral Service.
She is survived by a son, Randy Lee Church of Cooleemee, and daughter, Darlene (James) Greer, of Cooleemee; six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathaon Matthew Church, and two sisters, Joy Ann Hill and Zelma Stanley.

Carmen W. Arici

Carmen Monique Arici, 81, of Wilhaven Lane, died on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Born in Nancy, France on October 2, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clemence Overneer. She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Concetta Hawkins of New York and Brigitte Hawkins of Mocksville; 6 grandchildren, Monique, Raymond, Jenniffer, Julian, Shannon, and Leah; 5 great grandchildren, Reina, Cierra, Khamauri, Raniyah, and Shannelle, and a brother and nephew in France. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patrice Hawkins.
A Celebration of Life Service was conducted on Thursday, December 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Mrs. Doretha Nicholes officiating. The family received friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Louise Wyrick "Pug" Creason
Louise Wyrick “Pug” Creason, 79, of Main Street, died on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks. Born in Davie County on June 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Lee Wyrick and Chlois Lorana Byerly Wyrick. Before her retirement she had been employed as an accountant with the Ford Motor Company where she was the top accountant in the Southeast Region for a number of years. She had also worked at Horne Oil Company. She was a member of Cooleemee United Methodist Church and was a past president of the Salisbury Credit Women’s Club.
She is survived by a son, Mark Creason of Cooleemee; 2 grandsons, Eric Creason of Rockwell and Kevin Creason of Knoxville, TN; and 2 great grandchildren, Landon and Parker Creason of Rockwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey “H.A.” Wyrick.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, December 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Cooleemee United Methodist Church with Rev. Patrick Marion and Rev. Perry Bradshaw officiating. The family received friends on Friday, December 16, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the residence on Main Street. They received again on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Roger Dean Reinhardt

Roger Dean Reinhardt, 44, of Rupard Trail, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at his home.
He was born in Catawba County, NC on April 1, 1967; son of Bobby Dean Rhinehart and Brenda Herman Wilson. He was of the Baptist faith and really enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his family and friends.
A Celebration on Life Service was conducted on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm from Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Mr. Michael Cook officiating. The family received friends from 12:00 to 1:45 pm at Davie Funeral Service and other times at his sister’s home, 379 Fairfield Road, Mocksville, NC

Survivors include his companion of 25 years, Tania Sales of the home, daughter, Chelsey Reinhardt of the home, his mother and step-father, Brenda and Ralph Wilson of Hudson, his father, Bobby Rhinehart of SC, a brother, Tony Rhinehardt of Mocksville, four sisters, Scottie Miller of Mocksville, Bobby Jo Cook (Michael) of Longdale, Kathy Hill of Mocksville and Frenchie Fair (David) of Granite Falls.
Roger was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Lynn Rhinehart and Debra Ann Rhinehart.

Henry Lee Williams, Jr.
Henry Lee Williams, Jr., 63, of Ridge Road, Mocksville, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born in Rowan County on May 22, 1948, he was the son of the late Henry Lee Williams and Bettie Rebecca West Williams. Before becoming disabled, he was employed at Southern Screw Company in Statesville and was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lackey Williams, whom he married on December 8, 1968; a son, James E. (Heather D.) Williams of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren, Tina Marie Williams Hutchens, Rebecca Elizabeth Williams, Jessica Lynn Norkett, and Braddon Andrew Norkett; a great grandson, Jordan Blake Hutchens, and his mother-in-law, Beatrice C. Lackey of Mocksville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Eric Williams, and a sister, Beverly Williams.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Sunday, December 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Society Baptist Church with Rev. David Childress, Pastor J. B. Parker, and Jason Buchanan officiating. Edwin Theophil Johnson, Jr.
Edwin Theophil Johnson, Jr., 68, of Spillman Road, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born in Davie County on May 31, 1943, he was the son of the late Edwin Theophil Johnson, Sr. and Esther Woods Johnson. Before his disability, he was in boat sales and was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Billis Johnson of the home, 2 daughters, Catheryn Kennedy and Ellie Johnson, a brother, Gene Johnson of Winston-Salem and 2 grandchildren, Jake and Lia.

Dwante Eugene "Te' the Great" Patterson
Dwante Eugene “Te’ the Great” Patterson, 32, died on Thursday, November 29, 2011. Born in Cabarrus County on June 24, 1979, he was the son of Oliver Robinson and Barbara Jean Maxwell. He was employed in lawn and landscaping service and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his father and mother, he is survived by 8 sons, Isaah, Preston, Dewante, Nautica, Passion, Jaden, Jaylen and Jihad, all of Salisbury; 5 daughters, Brianna, Destiny, Telicia, Julianna, Sanaa, and London; all of Salisbury; a sister, Tameca Patterson; three nieces India and Shai Ann Connor, Ny’Deijah Patterson and nephew Jazeer Wagoner; his girlfriend of 13 years, Julia Medrano, and a host of family members and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Monday, December 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Love Christian Center at 102 North Long Street in East Spencer with Dr. Ronald Hash overseeing and Dr. Kevin Bost eulogizing. Burial was in the Byers Cemetery. The family received friends on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Vincent Seth Wheeler
Vincent Seth Wheeler, 62, of Pepperstone Drive, died on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Forsyth County on October 14, 1949, he was the son of the late Mitchell Seth Wheeler and Mary Katherine Anderson Wheeler. He was employed by the NC D.O.T. and was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his wife, Sallie Kitchel DeBlasio of the home, a daughter Angela-Noel (Wheeler) Thompson of High Point and a sister, Sylvia Wheeler of Maryland.

Mary Ellen Reed Hill

Mary Ellen Reed Hill, 44 of Mocksville died Monday, November 28, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born in Beckley, WV on September 5, 1967; to the late Freeman Reed and Opal Jean Robertson. She attended Calvary Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service was conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Davie Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Gryder officiating. Burial followed in Rose cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Davie Funeral Service.
Survivors include her three sons, James Fred (Kelly) Wilson of Virginia Beach, Brandon Lee Wilson and Daniel Paul Wilson both of Mocksville, a daughter, Jennifer Marie Wilson of Mocksville, a brother of Chris Reed , five sisters, Lisa Reed, Wanda Manning, Mae Graham, and Debbie Smith, Charlotte Cadle, a granddaughter, Lacie Marie Tesnar of Mocksville.
She is preceded in death by three sisters, Sandy Shrewsbury, Phyllis Mills and Connie Reed.

Edward Arthur Theurer, Jr.

Edward Arthur Theurer, Jr., 81, of Sunny Dell Lane, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at W. G. Hefner Medical Center. Born in Washington, DC on February 25, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward Arthur Theurer, Sr. and Helen Marie Bergling Theurer. He served in the Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sgt. from 1947 until 1971; was a POW, MIA, in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Mr. Theurer was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church; faith formation coordinator, local and state squire director, past grand knight of council 12610, 4th degree knight; awarded state volunteer of the year for the school, and L.A.M. director.
He is survived by 3 sons, Edward Arthur (Sandee) Theurer, III of Woodleaf, John Richard Theurer, of North Carolina, Michael Joe-Gene (Tonda) Theurer of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Deborah (Joseph) Fonseca of Washington State, Mary Josephine (Patrick) Donatto of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Fred (Marge) Theurer, of Gaithersburg, MD, and caregiver, granddaughter, Megan Hattenbach; 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers Donald and John Theurer, and 2 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Dec. 2, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Father John Starczewski officiating. Burial was on Monday, Dec. 5 at 11:00 a.m. in Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends on Thursday, December 1, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

Pamela Nadine Blalock Brown, 59, of US Hwy 601 South, died on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Rowan County on February 28, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Blalock and Millie Wall Blalock. She was a homemaker and was a member of Morningstar Baptist Church in Cleveland, NC.
She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Brown, whom she married in October of 1991; a son, Chad (Makisha) O’Neill of Mocksville; a stepdaughter, Beth Brown of Mocksville; 2 brothers, Jeff (Barbie) Blalock of Mocksville and Gary Blalock of Rowan County; a sister, Debbie Nichols of Mocksville, and 5 grandchildren, Jordan, Cody, Taylor, Jonathan and Corban O’Neill.
A Celebration of Life Service was on Wednesday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Pastors Ronald Young and Gary Blalock officiating. Timothy Lee O’Neal, 41, of Pine Ridge Road, died on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at his home. Born in Davie County on August 6, 1970, he was the son of Patricia Dale McDaniel O’Neal of Mocksville and the late Ray Junior O’Neal.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by 3 brothers Douglas and Dean O’Neal of Mocksville and Barry (Kristie) O’Neal of Salisbury; a sister, Wendy Meadows of Alabama; a half-sister, Amy Marie of Rockwell; his grandmother, Helen McDaniel, of Salisbury, and 3 nephews, Robert and Chris Meadows and Tanner O’Neal. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by grandparents Robert Lee McDaniel and Ray and Mattie O’Neal.

Larry Stephen Davis, Jr., 39, of Olin Village, Harmony, died on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at his mother’s home in Mocksville. Born in Davie County on December 21, 1971, he was the son of Peggy Ann Troutman Davis of Mocksville and the late Larry Stephen Davis, Sr. He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Kelli Davis of Statesville; 2 brothers, Keith Ray Davis of Advance and Christopher Davis of Mocksville, and a grandson, Riley Black. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Angela Sowers.

William Curtis "Billy" Ijames
William Curtis “Billy” Ijames, 57, of Pine Ridge Road, died on Thursday, November 24, 2011, at his home. Born in Rowan County on November 7, 1954, he was the son of the late William “Pete” Ijames and Colean Mary Cortell Ijames. He served in both the U. S. Army and the U. S. Air Force, retiring in 1995 with 22 years service. He served from August 1990 until January 1995 in support of Operation Desert Storm/Calm. He later worked for Freightliner in Cleveland and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Cooleemee American Legion Post.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Sparks Ijames, whom he married on May 19, 1982; a son, MSgt. William C. “Chad” (Katherine) Ijames of Incirlik AFB, Turkey; 3 daughters, Shanda R. Albea of Georgia, Robyn I. Ray of Winston-Salem, and Kimberly J. Clark of the home; a brother, Thomas Ijames of Mocksville; 4 sisters, Janet (Donald) Trexler of Cooleemee, Joann McDaniel of Murphy, NC, Nellie (Donnie) Waller and Mary (Bud) Akins, all of Mocksville, and 9 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Barbara Ijames, a brother-in-law, Cecil McDaniel, and a daughter-in-law, Namio H. Ijames.

Dorothy Edith Polk
Dorothy Edith Polk, 76, of Cemetery Street, Cooleemee, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 21, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born in Ashe County on October 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Quincy C. Smith and Katie Caroline Miller Smith. She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Hwy 601 South, Mocksville.
She is survived by her husband, J. Ralph Polk, whom she married on February 16, 1955; 2 sons, Johnny Dale (Ann) Polk of Statesville and James (Linda) Polk of Salisbury; 2 daughters, Brenda P. (Tim) Wood and Teresa P. (Billy) Seats, all of Mocksville. 3 brothers, Don Smith of Mocksville, John (Barbara) Smith of Athens, GA and Carl (Betty) Smith of Sparta; a sister, Mary (Gene) Polk of Fleetwood, NC; 8 grandchildren, Tami Beauchamp, Brian Wood, Adam Polk, Emily Sigmon, Shanta Williams, Joy Herring, Katie Seats and Abel Seats; and 4 great grandchildren, Jade Beauchamp, Zoey Wood, Nathan Polk, and Harper Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Hazel Miller, Ila Smith and Ruth Cox and 2 brothers, Clifford Smith and an infant brother Ernest Smith.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, November 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church on Hwy 601 S with Pastor Jim Gryder and Pastor Billy Seats officiating. She lay in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, November 24, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service in Mocksville.

James "Jim" Lloyd Ratledge

James “Jim” Lloyd Ratledge, 79, of Godbey Road, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville after a lengthy illness. Born on December 28, 1931, he was the son of the late Jay and Ila Ratledge of Davie County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953-1955. He was retired from Crown Wood in Mocksville and was a member of New Union United Methodist Church. Jim loved to hunt, fish, and grow a big garden as long as his health permitted. He was a friend to many and loved life fully.
In addition to his parents whom Jim will meet on that Heavenly Shore will be brothers John, Claude, Jay W., Kenneth and Dennis “Ham” Ratledge, and a sister, Lorene Ratledge Smoot.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Gaither Ratledge, to whom he was married on April 27, 1956, by Preacher Bulla. Jim also survived by 2 daughters, Teresa Booie of Mocksville and Wanda Scott of Winston-Salem; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Kaycee and Joanna Booie, Jerred and Jacob Alexander, and Calvin Scott; 3 sisters, Mary K. Rogers of Mocksville, Rebecca Belton of Winston-Salem, and Carolyn Bodenheimer of High Point.
A graveside service to celebrate Jim’s life was held on Sunday, November 20, at 2:30 p.m. in the New Union United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Steve Rainey and Pastor Wayne Swisher officiating. The family received friends on Saturday, November 19, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

Cherith Brooke Shepherd Straney

Cherith Brooke Shepherd Straney, 26, of Pearson Drive, died on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, on March 24, 1985, she was the daughter of Danny W. and Debbie Spry Shepherd of Cooleemee. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Baptist Church. She married her husband, Erick W. Straney, on June 14, 2003.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by 2 daughters, Kenzie Brooke Straney and Kaylie Ray Straney; a brother, Kristopher Shepherd of Mocksville, a sister, Jenny (Mac) Jones of Salisbury; her maternal grandparents, Bill and Peggy Teal of Concord, and her paternal grandparents, Bob and Margie Shepherd of Statesville.

Frances LaRocca D'Amato

Frances LaRocca D’Amato, 80, of Cana Road, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margherita DeLizza LaRocca. She was retired from Travelers Insurance, was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Joseph (Maria) D’Amato of Fulton, MD; a daughter, Kathleen (Peter) Melious of Winston-Salem; a sister, Anna Bartoloma, of Brooklyn, New York; 2 grandchildren, Janelle and Olivia D’Amato and a great grandchild, Alex. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Salvatore Francis D’Amato, on March 19, 2011; 2 sisters, Isabella and Nancy LaRocca and 2 brothers, Joseph and Rocco LaRocca.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Father John Starczewski officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. Emma Lou “Polly” Frye Fivecoat, 70, of Cornatzer Road, died on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Born in Davie County on May 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Floyd Frye and Pearl Geneva Potts Frye. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and was a member of Cornatzer Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Michael B. Fivecoat; 8 children, Keith Frye, Ramona (David) Brandmahl, Mickey (Marcia) Lambe, Melissa (Ricky) Wilmoth, Pandora (Mark) Marshall, Yolanda (Richie) Pack, Trent (Sissy) Lambe, and Dalena (Aaron) Childress; 2 sisters, Annie Ruth (Weldon) Allen and Helen (James) Shoaf of Mocksville; a sister-in-law, Vickie Frye of Mocksville; 17 grandchildren, Barry Jones, Jr., Zachary Stanley, Adam Brandmahl, Mandy Bledsoe, Miranda Edwards, Alana Marshall, Whitney Pack, Shane Pack, Ciera Smith, Destiny King, Savannah King, Shelby Lambe, Kiley Childress, Josh Barney, Kayla Wilmoth, Jaclyn Rackley and Jenifer Keller; and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Carl, Jim, and Lyndsay Frye.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornatzer Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Beverly officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday, October 11, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Cornatzer Baptist Church.

Charlie "Harding" Blackwelder

Charlie “Harding” Blackwelder, 76, of Mocksville, died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born in Davie County, NC on June 23, 1935, son of the late Charlie Joe and Estelle Chaffin Blackwelder. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Ijames Baptist Church. He retired from Loss Prevention Services as a security officer.
A graveside service was conducted at 12:00 noon, Friday, October 7, 2011 at Ijames Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Woodward officiating. Burial followed the service. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Davie Funeral Service Chapel.
Survivors include his two daughters, Debbie Blackwelder and Lynette J. Pierce (Rodney), both of Mocksville, three brothers, Lester Blackwelder (Ruby Jean) of Wilkesboro, Leslie Blackwelder (Betty) and Lloyd Blackwelder ( Cathy) all of Mocksville and a sister, Coleen Brown of Mocksville, his loving friend, Ola Mae Seats of Mocksville, two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Bradley, sister, Mary Woodward, brother, Dwight Blackwelder and two brothers-in-law, Doyle Brown and Jack Woodward.

Barbara Ann Webb Stafford, 70, of NC Highway 801S, died on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Davie County Hospital. Born in Cabarrus County on October 14, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Everett “Mutt” Webb and the late Mildred Lowder Webb Fletcher. She was retired from AT&T but currently employed at Jockey Distribution in Cooleemee. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir and was chairman of the Family Ministries Committee. She was also a member of the Jerusalem Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Stafford, whom she married on September 1, 1962; 2 daughters, Bobbie Jo (Perry) Miller and Kathy (Steve) Spillman, of Mocksville; 6 grandchildren, John Miller, Joey (Lindsay Carter) Miller, Brandon (Sydney Nelson) Cornatzer, Kameron Spillman, and Delana Spillman, all of Mocksville and Amanda (Timmy) Shoffner of Advance; 3 great grandchildren, Whitney Miller-Yenny, Tanner Shoffner, and Cody Shoffner; a sister, Mary “Libby” Foster; 2 brothers, Gerry (Brenda) Webb and Jerry (Shirley) Webb and several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Webb.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, September 27, at 12:30 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until12:30 p.m. at the church.

Wandeline Marie Witherspoon Ranson

Wandeline Marie Witherspoon Ranson, 80, of Main Church Road Ext., died on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at her home. Born in Catawba County on January 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Lewis H. Witherspoon and Rosie Smyre Witherspoon. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and was a member of the North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. Her husband, William Arthur Ranson, preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by 5 daughters, Brenda (Don) Hopkins of Kannapolis, Janice (Larry) Nelson of Ormond Beach, Florida, Marlene (Rev. Perry) Hampton of Mocksville, with whom she made her home, Melonie (Mike) Teal of Kannapolis, and Carolyn (Freddy) Guzman of Ovida, Florida; 2 sisters, Dorothy Baker and Wilma Earnhardt, both of Kannapolis; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Arthur Ranson, a daughter, Martha Carol Ranson, and a brother, Junior Witherspoon.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ranson was held on Saturday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord with Rev. Perry Hampton officiating. The family received friends on Friday, September 23, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

William Jeffery "Will" Sanderson
William Jeffery “Will” Sanderson, 44, of US Hwy 601 S, died on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at his home. Born in San Diego, California, on May 31, 1967, he was the son of William C. “Bill” and Frances Kay Wafford Sanderson, of Mocksville. Will had lived and worked in this area since 1991 and was a current student at the Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the Cooleemee Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by 2 brothers, Christopher S. “Chris” Sanderson of Mocksville and John Anthony “Tony” Freeman of Chicago, Illinois, and many other family members and friends. One friend stated, “The people that knew Will really cared for him. The people who didn’t get to know him missed the chance to meet a fun, loving, caring, and considerate man. This world has truly missed a wonderful man.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Douglas Anthony Culler

Douglas Anthony Culler, 53, of Countess Lane in Mocksville graduated from this life of pain and sickness to enter Heaven’s gates on Wednesday afternoon, September 14, 2011, while at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born on October 6, 1957 at Davie County Hospital, the second son of Charles Ray and Barbara Boles Culler, and was raised in his early years in the William R. Davie community of Davie County. He was the grandson of the late Robert R. and C. Olive Culler, and of the late Hubert and Elizabeth Boles. He attended Davie County schools.
Doug was married to Laura B. Culler, and together they owned and operated DC Services. He was a member of Hope Baptist Tabernacle of Mocksville. He was a member of the North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association, a member of Uni-Serv, and one of the founders of the Grease Police where he had served on the Board of Directors. Doug was an avid NASCAR fan and loved racing. He also enjoyed Carolina Panthers football.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Laura of the home, son Nicholas of Winston-Salem, step-daughter Jackie Barber of the home, mother-in-law Bertie Billsborough of Raxford, PA; his father Charles R. and step-mother Marion Culler, his mother Barbara B. Culler, sister Dianne Childress, brother Chris and wife Brenda Culler all of Mocksville, and brother Mike and wife Jan Culler of King; his dachshunds Snoopy and Chloie, and grand-dog Anna. He is also survived by several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service was conducted on Monday evening, September 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Hope Baptist Tabernacle, 2408 US Highway 158, in Mocksville with Pastor Chris Cantrell officiating. Family visitation commenced at 6:30 p.m. at the church. A private family service of inurnment of his cremains took place at the Bear Creek Baptist Church cemetery the following morning.

Lawrence Hayden Beck
Lawrence Hayden Beck, 86, of Cooleemee died Friday, September 9, 2011 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Davie County, NC on October 23, 1924; son of Nathan M. and Gertie Belle Keller Beck. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Photographer’s Mate 2nd class. As a combat photographer, he photographed the surrender of all Japanese forces in the Bonin Islands aboard the USS Dunlap off of Chichi Jima. He was a life member of the VFW, Post 1119, and was a member of American Legion Post 54 for over fifty years. He was instrumental in the incorporation of the Town of Cooleemee and served on Cooleemee’s first town board. He was Sextant of American Legion Cemetery in Cooleemee for over fifty years.
A Celebration of Life service was conducted at 3:00 pm Monday, September 12, 2011 from Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Shelby Harbour and Rev. Father Fred Clarkson. Burial followed in Legion Memorial Park with military honors by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the church on Monday, September 12, 2011.
Survivors include his daughter, Daphne Beck of Cooleemee, a brother, Andrew Wayne Beck of Cooleemee, two grandchildren, Sally H. Dial of Anchorage, Alaska and Robert Hornstein, Jr. of Beaufort, SC. Janet Marie Dexter Wise
Janet Marie Dexter Wise, 59, of Deer Run Drive, died on Saturday, September 3, at her residence. Born in Carbondale, PA, on January 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Maynard L. Dexter, and Edna Marie Goodman Simmons, who survives. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Janet enjoyed doing crafts and was a member of the Davie County Craft Association. She is survived by husband, Duane H. Wise.

(Emily) Watson, of Las Vegas NV; daughters, Karen Nichole (Anthony) Ingle, of Statesville, and Kristen Rae(Gabe) Henshaw, of Richmond, VA; sisters, Karen Faye (Richard) Ezzo of Stroudsburg, PA, and Rae Marie (Gary) Clark of Statesville; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, and Blakely Watson; Katie and Alyson Frasher, Sarah Ingle, Nathaniel and Isabella Henshaw.

Charles W. Galloway
Charles Welch Galloway, Jr., 81, of W. Morgan St., Brevard, completed his earthly journey on Sunday, August 28th, 2011, at Tore’s Home after a brief illness. He was born in Draper, VA, on July 12, 1930, with his uncle, the late Dr. J. D. Millard, as the attending physician. Charles always said he “just went there to get born,” because he spent virtually the rest of his life in Transylvania County. He was the son of the late Charles Welch Galloway, Sr., and the late Beatrice Bruner Galloway Fenwicke. He was a 1949 graduate of Brevard High School where he held the unique position of “Chief Cheerleader.”
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Madeline Lanning Galloway of the home; two daughters, Lynda G. Huntley (Doug) of Laurinburg, NC, and Leesa G. Ashe (Cecil) of Rosman; one son, Gary M. Galloway of Brevard; five grandchildren, Amanda Huntley, Winston Huntley, Isreal Ashe, Nicole Ashe, and Raleigh Galloway; two great-grandchildren, Brannon Huntley and Keyli Ashe-Barton; Special cousins, Pat Bruner Fisher and Rev. Billy Bruner, both of Rosman.
Charles served his country during the Korean War with the US Navy (1949-50) and was a member of the local American Legion and VFW. In 1961, soon after the establishment of the Brevard Rescue Squad, he became an active member and served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years. After 42 years of service with Ecusta Manufacturing, he retired and enjoyed golfing & bowling with his buddies on a regular basis. A lifelong Democrat, he was active with the Democrat Men’s Club and in local party politics. Nonetheless, he had many close and trusted friends of other political persuasions. He attended Temple Baptist Church.
In his spirit of volunteerism and helping others, some years ago he chose to register his body for donation to the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine. The family received friends from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011, at the Temple Baptist Church. Memorial services immediately followed at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Rev. Billy Bruner and Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Tamara Morris Burkhart, 52, of Pine Lodge Road, Lexington, died on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Born in Davidson County on April 8, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Foy Morris and Mrs. Marlene Brooks Morris of Lexington.
She survived by her mother, Marlene B. Morris of Lexington, husband, James W. Burkhart, two daughters, Kendra Odum (Ronnie) and Jennifer Leigh Burkhart, a brother, Terry Morris and four grandchildren, Joshua A. Creech, Jr., Sara A. Creech, Zachary Odum and Hayley Odum all of Lexington. She was preceded in death by her father.

Bernard Franklin “Bernie” Cagle, 55, of Abbeyville Road, Harmony and owner and operator of Cagle’s Fruit Market on US Hwy 601 N in Mocksville, died on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. Born in Cana, Virginia, on June 8, 1956, he was the son of Elsie Cagle Easter of Cana, Virginia and the late Cecil Winfred Cagle. He was a member of Sandy Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Cana, Virginia, where he served as a deacon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna Gail Minor Cagle, whom he married on December 1, 1975; 2 sons, Franklin Lee Cagle of Statesville and Charlie Winford Cagle of the home; 4 brothers Jimmy Ray (Marilyn) Cagle of Bethel Springs, TN, Leroy(Joyce) Cagle and Jack (Frankie) Cagle, all of Cana, VA and Jeffery (Robin) Cagle of Hillsville, VA; 2 sisters, Brenda (Danny) Carter of Cana, VA and Connie (Jimmy) Guynn of Fancy Gap, VA and 2 grandchildren, Olivia Elsie Cagle and Austin Curtis Cagle.

Dorothy L. Anderson Conner, 89, of Farmington Road, died on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Davie County Hospital. Born in Wilkes County on June 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Anderson and Girtie Hendren Anderson. She was retired from Monleigh Garment Company with 30 years service and was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, and was especially known for working with her flowers. Her husband of 46 years, Jasper Tony “J.T.” Conner, preceded her in death in February, 1985.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Shirley Naomi Conner (Tennyson) Anderson, Brenda Mae Connor (Everette) Glasscock and Mildred Beulah Conner King, all of Mocksville; 3 half-sisters, Audry Love, Eunice and Levina, all of Wilkes County; 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a great, great granddaughter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester “Buck” Anderson, 5 sisters, Girtie “Leo” Burton, Rosa Anderson, Cora Shaw, Florence Benge and Rhoda Hayes and 2 half-brothers, John Henry Anderson and Dewey Anderson.

Robert Valentine O'Neal

Robert Valentine O’Neal, 85, of Maple Knoll Drive, died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Davie County Hospital. Born in Davie County on February 14, 1926, he was the son of the late John Henry Frank O’Neal and Mattie Jordan O’Neal. He served in the U.S. Navy with the 29th Infantry Division on Omaha Beach during the D Day Invasion. He was a Gunner’s Mate Second Class and returned as 1 of 3 of 300 in the unit identified as the “Sons of Beaches.” He retired as a commercial truck driver and was a member of Teamsters Local 559. He was a member of Mocksville V.F.W. Post 4024 and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey Jean Scanlon O’Neal, of the home; a son, Steve R. (Karen) O’Neal of Crewe, VA; a daughter, Roberta Lee Marshall of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Scott and David (Mandy) O’Neal and 2 great grandchildren, Corey Scott and Alexis Shelton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John Frank, Ray and Wilbur O’Neal, and a sister, Lucy Williams.

Jeraldine Ann Patrick Lowe, 64, of Madison Road, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at her home. Born in Calhoun County, Michigan, on September 24, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Patrick and Pearly Hackworth Patrick. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. For many years she was a foster parent to many children in Davie County.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Eugene Lowe, Sr., whom she married on August 7, 1965; 3 sons, Thomas Eugene (Karen) Lowe, Jr. of Mocksville, Tyler Thomas (Jessie) Lowe of Lexington, and Tanner Jordan (Manda) Lowe of Mocksville; a daughter, Tammy Jean (David) Tifft, of Mocksville; 2 sisters, Earnestine (Ishmael) Handshoe and Vera Lee (Roger) Hoover, all of Michigan; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Lonnie Lee Bragg, 46, of Frye Bridge Road, Clemmons, died on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at his home. Born in Forsyth County on December 24, 1964, he was the son of the late Lonnie Gray Bragg and Sylvia Edwards Bragg. He was a welder and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Lee Foster, of Clemmons; a daughter, Kimberly Dawn Bragg of Low Gap; a brother, Lenny Bragg and a sister, Tansy Dudley, both of Clemmons; his fiancée, Shannon; 7 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Garry Dean "Tiny" Livengood

Garry Dean “Tiny” Livengood, 64, of Riverview Road, Advance, died on Monday, August 8, 2011, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born in Rowan County on September 8, 1946, he was the son of the late George W. “G.W.” Livengood and Venice Seaford Livengood. He spent all of his life in the Fork Community and was a member of Cornatzer Baptist Church. He retired from the NC DOT with 30 years service and worked for Kisinger-Campo Associates for 10 years. He loved coaching and playing softball and bowling with the Seniors. On August 13, 1972, he married Yvonne Allen Livengood, who survives, of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Amber King and Jamie Livengood and a son, Allen (Paula) Livengood, all of Advance; 5 grandchildren, Dale Hanes, Tristan Hanes, Taylor Godbey, Alyssa Godbey and Hailey Livengood; and a special cousin, Charles Wood, of the home.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornatzer Baptist Church with Reverends Jeff Beverly, Craig Seaford and Danny Shore officiating. Marjorie Fay Peters Zayac, 74, of Wargo Road, Cumberland, Ohio, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Cambridge, Ohio on July 13, 1937 to the late Loren and Luella Burrie Peters. She was a nurses aid and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas Joseph Zayac, Jr. on June 30, 2008.

Born in Mitchell County, GA on June 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Cook and Ivy Lee Palmer Cook. She was an insurance claim investigator, a member of the Insurance Women Association and of the Baptist faith.

Annie Opal Robertson Howard, 91, of Dulin Road, died on Friday, July 22, 2011, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born in Davie County on April 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Grover Scales Robertson and Lizzie Anna Potts Robertson. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Dulin United Methodist Church. She was the secretary of her Sunday school class for many years, and a member of United Methodist Women. Her husband, Obie Hobert Howard of 65 years, preceded her in death in 2007.
She is survived by 2 sons, Larry Howard, and Donald (Patricia) Howard; 3 daughters, Ann H. (Allen) Blakley, Dottie H. (Virgil) Bright, and Gay H. (Audrey) Harkey, of Harmony, Tony D. Delbert Adam “Red” Paterick, 89, of Riddle Circle, died Wednesday, June 29, at his home. Born in Lilly, PA, on July 19, 1921, he was the son of the late Adam Wilson and Lillie Mae Crum Paterick. He is survived by his wife, Elda Eger Paterick of 54 years. He attended high school in Lilly, PA and also The University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Paterick served in the United States Marines during WWII, was a former school teacher, retired insurance representative, and was manager of Tanglewood Park Campground in Clemmons, NC. He also worked in the Pipers coal mines with his father. He was a 32nd degree Mason in Altoona, PA and Advance, NC, and a member of VFW Post 8719 in Advance, NC, and served as a volunteer at Forsyth Medical Center and was of the Lutheran faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sister, Ethyl Paterick and brother William J. Paterick. Mr. Paterick is survived by 2 sons, David A. Paterick of Albuquerque,New Mexico, Danny W. Paterick, of Chilton, Wisconsin; daughter, Christine (David) Purkey of Mocksville; 2 brothers, Robert L. Mildred Jeanette Keller, 81, of Harmony died Thursday June 16, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House, Statesville. She was born in Iredell County on June 3, 1930, the daughter of the late James Lee Keller and Laura Teague Keller. She was retired from Textiles and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Villard Beck of the Sheffield community, several nephews and nieces, nephew, Danny Keller of the home and a special friend, Mary McDaniel of Mocksville.
Mildred was preceded in death by sister, Orene Peoples and two brothers, Rex Allen Keller, Sr. and Jay Lee Keller.

Ronald Eugene Cranfill, 56, of Deck Circle, died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at his home. Born in Rowan County on February 11, 1955, he was the son of the late Stacey Harding Cranfill and Nellie May Baity Cranfill. He was employed by Skyline Tobacco Company and attended Turners Creek Baptist Church.

Mary Malinda Dwiggins Presnell, 88, of Hwy 801 South, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her home. Born in Davie County on December 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Frank Dwiggins and Maggie Jones Dwiggins. She was a graduate of Mocksville High School and was of the Methodist faith. She was retired after working for 27 years at Erwin Mills in Cooleemee and 15 years at Hanes in Winston-Salem.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dan Presnell; of the home; 3 daughters, Malinda (Calvin) Frye, Glenda (Richard, Jr.) Whitt, and Kathy (Jeffrey) Anderson, all of Mocksville; a sister, Louise (Dallas, Jr.) Moore of Mocksville; a brother, Clinard (Geraldine) Dwiggins of Mocksville; 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Dwiggins and a grandson, Chris Jordan.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Ron Young officiating. Burial was in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. Manuel Woodrow Durham, 76, of Walt Wilson Road, died on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Davie County on January 17, 1935, he was the son of the late John Wesley Durham and Hattie Magalene Prevette Durham. He had been employed at Lexington Furniture and attended Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Gaither Durham, of the home; 2 sons, Terry M. (Donna) Durham of Lexington and L. Steve (Sandy) Durham of Statesville; 3 daughters, Vanessa D. (Mike) Southard of Cooleemee, Sherrie D. Gibson of Mocksville, and Penny D. (Sandy) Owens of Lexington; a brother, Dwight “Judd” Durham of Cooleemee, a sister, Linda Cline of Kannapolis; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mickey Durham; 6 brothers, Otis, Gray, Sid, Harold, Floyd and Ed Durham and 2 sisters, Audrey Foster and Nell Spry.

Rhober Philmore “R.P.” Martin, Jr. 84 of N. Main Street died Wednesday April 20, 2011 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born March 1, 1926 in Davie County, NC son of the late Rhober Philmore Martin, Sr. and Laura Shermer Martin. He was a veteran having served in the U. S. Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mocksville and was the owner of Martin’s Equipment and Service Company.
A Celebration of life service was conducted Friday 11:00 AM April 22, 2011 from Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. A. Shane Nixon officiating. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery with rites by the V. F. W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Davie Funeral Service.

Samuel Columbus Penwell, Jr., 64, of Holly Lane, died Tuesday, April 19, 2001 at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on June 25, 1946, he was the son of the late Samuel Columbus Penwell, Sr. and Pearl Cutchin Penwell. Mr. Penwell was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was retired from Stroh’s Brewery and Oak Valley Golf Club. He was an avid Wake Forest Fan, past member of the Mocksville Jaycee’s and a coach with Davie County Little League Baseball Team.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Ann S. Penwell, two daughters; Sharron (David) Vogler of Clemmons and Karen (Steve) Howell of Winston-Salem, one brother; Tommy (Sherry) Penwell and family of Rocky Mount and a sister, Becky Penwell of Tarboro, three grandchildren, Evan, Noah and Natalie and his cruising, traveling and golfing buddies.

Catherine Annette Davis Flanagan, 45, of Castlewood Drive, Salisbury, died on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at her home. Born in Welch, West Virginia, on July 23, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Edward Barrett and the late Ruth Davis Ward. She was a registered nurse at Genesis Eldercare in Salisbury and attended Victory Baptist Church in Cooleemee.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Todd Flanagan; 2 daughters, Nikki Flanagan of New Orleans, LA and Jessica Flanagan of Mocksville; a sister, Karen Sue Fleming of Cooleemee and 2 grandchildren, William Flanagan and Collin Tuttle.

Bobby Eugene Wood, 73, of Sunnydell Lane, died on Sunday, April 10, 2011, at his home. Born in Guilford County on January 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Hughen Charles Wood and Ruth Elizabeth Stack Wood. He served in the U. S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves from 1955 until 1963. He was retired as an aircraft maintenance engineer.

Howard Edwin Funk, 76, of Bailey Street, died on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born in Bronx, New York, on August 3, 1934, he was the son of the late Howard E. Funk and Helen Theresa Barry Funk. He was retired from retail sales and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12610 of Mocksville and Council 2282 of Clemmons.
He is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Walter) Bostian of Mocksville; 2 brothers, Charles and Bobby Funk, of New York; 2 sisters, Terry Deitz of New York and Virginia Black of Florida; and 3 grandchildren, Jade, Laurel and Selena Dollar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lorraine McGinty and Jeanellen DiSanto.

Eleanor Davis Gallimore, 76, of Mocksville, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Born in Cabarrus County on July 29, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Graham Jennings and Dorothy Fletcher Davis. Mrs. Gallimore worked for Davie County in the elections office and other county departments. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, Howard Keith Gallimore; two brothers, Glenn and Arthur “Bud” Davis, and sister, Blanche Nesbit.
Mrs. Gallimore is survived by three sons, Shawn (Karen) Gallimore of Sumter, S.C., Ian (Anne Caston) Gallimore of Palmyra, PA, and John (Wendy)

Allen Gaultney of Mooresville; a daughter, Melissa Gaultney of Cooleemee; 2 brothers, Richard (Lois) Coley of Lexington and Jimmy Coley of Salisbury; 2 sisters, Brenda Trexler of Salisbury and Barbara (Tim) Crawford of Lexington; 4 grandchildren, Tiffany Fleming, Courtney Gaultney, Corey Gaultney and Cooper Gaultney and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Gualtney, her stepfather, Norman Creason and a niece, Doris Crissman.

Salvatore Francis D’Amato, 82, of Cana Road, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at his home. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 28, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Camelia Natoli D’Amato. He was retired as CEO of American Bank Note Holographics and was the owner and operator of Jansal Saddlebreds. He was a lifetime member of the Professional Engineers Association and had over 100 patents. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances LaRocca D’Amato of the home; a son, Thomas Joseph (Maria) D’Amato of Fulton, MD; a daughter, Kathleen (Peter) Melious of Winston-Salem; a brother, Robert (Yvonne) D’Amato of Eatons Neck, NY; 2 grandchildren, Janelle and Olivia D’Amato and a great grandchild, Alex. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ralph and Joseph D’Amato.

Born in Wilkes County on July 20, 1938, he was the son of Effie Garris Holland Summers of Statesville and the late Wilburn Holland. He was the owner of Holland’s Custom Wood Finishing and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He had also worked at Baker Furniture. His wife of 47 years, Arlene Parsons Holland, preceded him in death in 2005.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by 2 daughters, Judy (Tommy) Whitaker of Harmony and Wanda (Dean) Wilkins of Yadkinville; 2 sons, Bobby (Nicole) Holland of Advance and Dale (Jennifer) Holland of Mocksville; 2 brothers, Robert and Lonnie Holland; 4 sisters, Mary Hicks, Kathleen Ellis, Patricia Robertson and Martha Eppic; a son-in-law, Lonnie Whitaker; 8 grandchildren, Andrew Whitaker, Alysha Wilkins, Jessica Whitaker, Logan Holland, Amy Whitaker, Elizabeth Holland, Daniel Whitaker and Dylan Holland and 2 great grandchildren, Hunter Trivette and Savannah Whitaker. Born in Rowan County on August 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Daniel Cashwell and Mary Annabelle Walton Livengood. He served in the 465th Engineers during World War II winning the Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from Ingersoll-Rand and was a member of Community Baptist Church. After retirement, he was a school crossing guard on North Main Street for 10 years. His wife, Violet Parker Livengood, preceded him in death on September 27, 2010.
He is survived by 2 sons, Gary Christopher (Shelia) Livengood, Sr. of Granite Quarry and Michael Wilson Livengood of Mocksville; 4 grandchildren, Gary Christopher, Jr. and Joseph Lee Livengood, Wayne Propst and Jimmy Jones and 2 great grandchildren, Alea and Ethan Livengood. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Paul, Baxter, Grimes, Coyt, and Sherrill Livengood and a sister, Lena Mae Pless.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Friday, March 11, at 2:00 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Clyde Settle and Rev. Howard Parker officiating. Burial was in Rowan Memorial Park with military honors by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family received friends on Thursday, March 10, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service.

Preston “Pepsi” Byerly

Preston “Pepsi” Byerly, 64, of Moore Trail, died on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Davie County Hospital. Born in Davidson County on April 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Jona “Mac” Matthew and Emma Mae Hege Byerly. He gradurated from North Davidson High School and He worked at Davidson Community College and had previously worked for the City of Mocksville, and retired from Beco Electric. He was a member of Davie Baptist Church. Also a veteran of the Vietnam era and was a Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by a special godson, Garry D. (Angela) Neely of Mocksville; 3 god grandchildren, Justin Tyler Neely, Ryan Austin Neely, and Megan Christine Neely; 2 sisters, Zada “Sue” Pierce of Clemmons and Letha Mae Eaton of Thomasville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Phillip and Jack Byerly and a sister, Edith Louise Brewer.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Wes Cook officiating. The family received friends on Wednesday from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment was on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Davie Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by The VFW Memorial Honor Guard.

Doyle Brown

Doyle Brown, 77, of Jolly Road, died on Monday, February 21, 2011, at his home. Born in Davie County on July 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Lonnie James and Bertha Mae Jones Brown. He was retired as a self-employed saw miller and was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the U. S. Army.; He was also a 46 year member of Mocksville Masonic Lodge 134, the Winston-Salem 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and a 27 year member of the Oasis Shrine.
He is survived by his wife, Coleen Blackwelder Brown, whom he married on December 22, 1956; a daughter, Sheila Dianne Brown of Mocksville; a grandson, Logan Doyle Brown; a brother, Dorman Brown of Mocksville; a sister-in-law, Patty Brown of Salisbury; brothers-in-law, Lester (Ruby Jean) Blackwelder of North Wilkesboro, Leslie (Betty) Blackwelder, Harding Blackwelder and Lloyd (Cathy) Blackwelder, all of Mocksville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lester James Brown and Larry Wayne Brown and a sister, Irene Brown Groce.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Brown was held on Thursday, February 24, at 4:00 p.m. at Ijames Baptist Church with Rev. Alex Heffner and Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the church. Linda Faye Myers Leazer, 69, of Hobson Drive, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 17, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Davie County on September 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Louie Vestal and Luna Kimmer Myers. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by 3 sons, Michael Lee (Diane) Leazer of Rockwell, Bradley Shane (Shelly) Leazer and Chad Lacey (Melissa) Leazer, all of Mocksville; 2 brothers, Harold Wayne (Rachel) Myers of Salisbury and Louie Hayden (Patty) Myers of Mocksville; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Sitko Palozzolo, 72, of Longwood Drive, Advance, died on Thursday, February 17, at her residence. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 7, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence Newbauer Sitko. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Her husband of 47 years, Joseph Palozzolo, preceded her in death in 2006.
She is survived by 3 sons, Wayne Joseph Palozzolo of Port Charlotte, Florida; Anthony D. (Bev) Palozzolo of Advance and Joseph M. (Grace) Palozzolo of Fox Lake, Illinois; 2 daughters, Laurie A. (James) Sitko of Saugus, California and Michelle Joy Foster of Denver, Colorado; 2 brothers, James (Laurie) Sitko of Saugus, CA and Jerome (Michelle) Sitko of Memphis, TN; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Marie Duffey and a brother, Robert Sitko.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, February 21, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Father Andrew Draper, T.O.R., officiating. Roger Dale Parks, 35, of Glenn High Road, Winston-Salem, died on Saturday, February 5, at his home. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 1, 1975, he was the son of Caralyn Lewis Parks of Winston-Salem and the late Marvin Roger Parks. She is survived by her husband, Roy Dermont Williams of the home; 2 sons, Roy Michael (Marjorie) Williams of Salisbury and Timothy Kevin Williams of Mocksville; 3 brothers, Frank (Audrey) Harkey of Harmony, Neddy (Vickie) Harkey, Tony Harkey of Mocksville and Bill Harkey of Taylorsville; 3 sisters, Brenda (Butch) Peffley of Jacksonville, NC, Bonnie Williams and Beverly Joan Smith, both of Mocksville; and 2 grandchildren, Jeremiah Jade Williams and Zackary Kevin Burgess. Mary “Sally” Funderburk Jacobs, 66, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011, at her home. Born in Rowan County on December 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes Fletcher Funderburk. She attended Cooleemee Presbyterian Church and was retired from Wonderknit. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, beating her family at Jeopardy and watching her great grandchildren play. Her husband, Jerry Wesley Jacobs, preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by her children Lori (Tommy) Waller of Cooleemee, Pattie (the late Larry) Angell of Mocksville, David (Marilyn) Jacobs of Woodleaf, Lisa Jacobs of Mocksville, Jeffrey Jacobs of Cooleemee, Jennifer (Kenny Gray) Jacobs and Shane and Alex Jacobs of the home. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren, Brandy (T.D. Miller) Waller, Tony (Lauren) Angell, Krystal (Matt Lee) Angell and Matthew Waller and 2 great grandchildren, with a third on the way. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers and a sister.

Bobbie Jean Reavis Cranford, 71, of Glenview Lane, Mocksville, died on Wednesday, January 26, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Yadkin County on April 13, 1939, she was the daughter of the late David Martin and Daisy Belle Lindely Reavis. She was a retired textile worker and was of the Baptist faith. Her husband, Charles Clinton Cranford, Sr., preceded her in death in 1996.
She is survived by a son, Charles (Melinda) Cranford of Cleveland, NC; 2 daughters, Wendy (Dale) Craver and Jeanette (Dennis) King, all of Cooleemee; a sister, Betty (Ivan) Thies of Mocksville; a special friend, Gordy Fink, of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Sue Cranford; 6 brothers, Paul, James, David Jr., Bill, Jerry , and Jack Reavis and 4 sisters, Maude Gunter, Elizabeth Rushing, Martha Page, and Louise Steelman.

Jeffrey Dean “JJ” Joyner
Mr. Jeffrey Dean “JJ” Joyner, 51, a beloved father, papaw, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend suddenly departed this earth on January 24, 2011. Jeff was born May 15, 1959 to William H. and Peggy Adams Joyner. He was a graduate of Davie County High School. Jeff loved to drive his tractor and dump truck, work on his land, play music, build things, spend time with his family as well as his furry friend Freckles. He also enjoyed helping the people he loved. Jeff always loved the Lord and currently attended Hillsdale United Methodist Church.
“Papaw Jeff” was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Billy Joyner and a special friend Carol Driscoll.
Jeff is survived by his daughter Brandi Joyner Deese, granddaughter Emma Deese, parents Bill and Peggy Joyner, sisters Deborah Hendrix (Boyd), Brenda Legg, Martha McCraw, and brothers Mike Joyner (Lisa), and Bob Joyner (Merrilyn). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, friends and “best buddies” Adam Barber, Gary Chaffin, Freddy Cothren, Jamie White and a “little buddy” Dillion Bentley.

Jose Ramirez-Vargaz, 77, of Cheyenne Lane, died on Sunday, January 23, at his home. Born on September 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Steban Ramirez Guitierrez and Regina vVrgaz Salomon.
Survivors include Maria De Laluz Ramirez of Texas and Ninfa Alvardo-Ramirez of Mocksville.

Charles Chester Reich 
Charles Chester Reich, 77, of Marietta, Georgia, and formerly of Mocksville, died on Friday, January 21, 2011, in Marietta, Georgia. Born in Washington, DC on March 11, 1933, he was the son of the late Merrill D. and Evelyn Muriel Wright Reich. He was retired from real estate sales and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Marilyn Macy Reich, 2 brothers, Merrill and Dale Reich and a son-in-law, Richard Lowe. He is survived by his wife, Mary Joy Reich, whom he married in 2002, 2 sons, Kenneth Dale Reich of Myrtle Beach, SC and Charles Edwin (Sherri) Reich of Thomasville; 2 daughters, Teri Lowe of Susanville, CA and Laurie (Jeff Mitchell) Scott of Clemmons; 2 stepsons, Reed (Livia) Crouch of Marietta, GA and Cary (Lilia) Crouch of Southaven, MS; 2 stepdaughters, Tracy (Harry) Penninger and Shelia (John) Hopkins, all of Marietta, GA; a niece, Alexandra (Mark) Childs of Massachusetts; 33 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Mr. Reich was on Thursday, January 27, at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Westchester Road in Winston-Salem with Bishop Joseph Whitaker presiding. Roger Dale Smith
Roger Dale Smith, 55, of Oddie Road, left this world peacefully on Thursday, January 20, at his home and is now celebrating his new life in heaven after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Roger was born September 5, 1955 in Davie County and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Smith. He was employed by Performance Fiber and had worked on the plant site for thirty-three years. Roger loved hunting, fishing, gardening and was known locally for his welding skills. He will be remembered as an honest, fair and dependable man. He was loved and will be missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa, son Roger Dale "Robbie" Smith, Jr., a sister, Bernice (Robert) Walker, and 4 brothers, Lonnie (Jessie Ruth), Willis (Shirley) and Lawrence (Carla) Smith, all of Mocksville and Wayne (Carol) Smith of Albemarle and their children.
Services were held Sunday, January 23, at 3:00 p.m. at Eaton Baptist Church, Eaton Church Road, Mocksville, with burial in the church cemetery and visitation following. Pastor Mike Shoaf of Nazareth Community Church, Rockwell NC was the minister of the ceremony.

Elizabeth Denise Sullivan Meadows, 47, of Brookstone Circle, King, died on Tuesday, January 18, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born in Forsyth County on September 17, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Edna Holland Sullivan. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

Walter Floyd “Red” McDaniel, 83, of Cable Lane, died on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at WFU Baptist Medical Center. Born in Davie County on June 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter and Augusta Jarvis McDaniel. He was retired from Fiber Industries and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Statesville.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy Smith McDaniel of the home; 4 sons, Roger (Kathy) McDaniel, Terry (Ann) McDaniel, Randy McDaniel and Mark McDaniel, all of Mocksville; a daughter, Stacey McDaniel of the home; a stepson, Matt Williams, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christal Houck, 2 brothers, Thomas and Gilbert McDaniel; a sister, Helen McDaniel, and a great grandson, Ryan Martin

Garland Dale Spry, 58, of Baileys Chapel Road, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Born in Davie County on August 1, 1952, he was the son of Garland Green Spry and Betty Elizabeth Berrier Spry of Advance. He was a construction sub-contractor and attended Elbaville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he is survived by a son, Scotty Dale Spry of Advance; 2 daughters Beverly Spry (Billy) Miller of Raleigh and Tiffany Spry Landreth of Yulee, Florida; 2 brothers, Andy Spry of High Rock Lake and Keith Spry of Advance; 2 sisters, Eudene Barnes of Lewisville and Darlene (William) Blake of Farmington; a granddaughter, Stephanie Miller, and his close companion, Linda Allred of Ramseur, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tim Spry.

Peggy Joanna Kerley Hill
Peggy Joanna Kerley Hill, 82, of Center Street, died on Sunday, January 09, 2011, at her residence. Born in Virginia on September 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Isom and Essie Elizabeth Dunn Kerley. She was a nurse at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and also worked for Dr. B. Taylor. Because of her career, she made the ultimate gift to science so other people may be saved for the long term illness she had. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Jacob Hill.
She is survived by daughter, Mona Barber of Cooleemee, granddaughter,Amanda Pleemons, of Myrtle Beach, SC, great grandchildren, Tristien Pleemons, and Isabella Nelson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jerry, Leroy, and Jack Kerley, and 2 sisters, Janie Kerley Vogler, and Katheryn Young.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sons, James Hugh, Jr., Donald and Gary “Cotton” Edwards; 2 daughters, Margaret Wiles and Betty Brown, and 2 brothers, Clyde and Lester Ratledge ,
The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Edwards was on Saturday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. at New Union United Methodist Church with Dr. Steve Rainey and Dr. Billy Jarrett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be considered for New Union United Methodist Church Building Fund c/o Terry Dyson, 595 Duke Whittaker Road, Mocksville, NC 27028 or to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
