Rudy Fonti, was the patriarch of our family. He was a proud Italian American who served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After his service in the Navy, his degree in Engineering earned him a job in charge of the large ships that docked in NYC harbor on their way to distant ports. After that he and his wife moved to Venezuela where he owned his own company servicing fleets of trucks. He traveled the globe with his beloved Yolanda, his wife of 59 years. They went to Egypt, Italy, Greece, most of Europe and other exotic destinations. He came back to the States and settled in San Francisco where he was employed by the University of California, San Francisco as the chief stationary engineer of physical plants. Professionaly, Rudy was thorough, highly intelligent and exceptionally knowledable not only of matters specific to his chosen field, but of everyday life matters in general.
Upon retirement from USF, Rudy and Yolanda (affectionately known as Diana) decided to build a house in Las Vegas, which they enjoyed for many years. Eventually they said goodbye to the dessert climate and returned to California settling in Rockland, California.
Years passed, and in 2014 Rudy and Diana chose to move to senior living in Massachusetts where they made many new friends. His new Massachusetts friends were welcoming and wonderful to Rudy. They all grew close enjoying each other's friendship at meals and through conversations together. Rudy's friends tell me that he was truly liked and will be missed by them.
The prayers of Rudy's family members, daughter Shirley, her husband David, Rudy's brother Louis, sister Ginevra, his nephews, Leo, Pat, Tony, Dean and Eric and his Niece Gina, Niece-in-laws Jean, Hanna and Cheryl, his four great nieces, Sarena, Gabriella, Olivia, Jesica and Venessa and his great nephew Jack. His second cousins Anthony, Fred and Carol, his relatives thoughts and prayers will all usher him on his way to his dearly departed loved ones waiting for him in heaven. Where his beloved wife, Diana, his cousins Ida, Santa, Clara, Basilio, Alice, Rudy's two deceased brothers Bob and Richard, his mother Erminia and father Luigi await him for a big family reunion. Rudy, we love you, may you rest in peace.
