Boscobel
Roger Wayne Halverson, age 80, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2018 @ UW Hospital in Madison, WI surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born on April 3, 1938 to Ralph and Josephine Halverson in LaCrosse, WI.  He grew up in Houston, MN.  After High School he enlisted in the army and was stationed at Fort Sill, OK.  On December 23, 1972 he was joined in marriage with the Love of his Life, Sharon (Hodgson) Halverson in Dubuque, IA.  They resided in Boscobel the rest of his life.  To that union came two Daughters, Jennifer & Rebecca.  They were his pride and joy.  He enjoyed watching them grow and mature into wonderful young ladies.  Roger worked in construction, at Allis Chalmers in LaCrosse, at Heilmann Brewery, and finally got the job he was so passionate about for the DNR.  He started out in Wildlife Management and was on several years of turkey trapping.  He also spent some time in the fisheries dept., then became the crew leader that was responsible for the lower Wisconsin Riverway from Prairie du Sac, WI to Prairie du Chien, WI.  He worked with Paul Brandt for numerous years as they were working on purchasing land for the Riverway project.  He took great pride in keeping the Riverway in its natural state and available for hunting, fishing, and trapping.  
Roger was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper his entire life.  We enjoyed many, many meals of the fish he caught over the years along with venison, wild turkey, pheasant, and grouse.  He, however, was the only one who could stomach the duck.  
He had lots of fishing and hunting buddies over the years and he treasured each and every one of them.  He instilled his love of fishing within his entire family.  For the last several years our family took several summer fishing vacations up north.  He truly loves his son-in-law’s and treasured the times they got to fish/hunt together.  He felt like they were the sons he never had.  He loved giving his opinion on what poles they should use or what bait was best for the particular location they were fishing.  
Roger began having chronic back pain about 3.5 years ago.  He certainly was a trooper and tried a multitude of medical treatments to relieve the pain so that he could fish again, but God had different plans.  He must have needed someone to teach people how to fish in heaven (the best part of that is that he is now pain free).  
Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Sharon and two daughters, Jennifer (Pat) Hromadka & Rebecca (Brock) Siedlecki.  He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Hodgson, two brother-in-law’s, Glenn (Barb) Hodgson, Bill (Judy) Hodgson, two sister-in-law’s, Joyce (Bill) Watters, and Virginia (Fred) Base, three nephews and a niece, along with many cousins.  He is also survived by two very special little girls that brought great joy to his life, Kate and Kaci Gebhard.  
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Josephine Halverson, his father-in-law, George Hodgson, his brother, Richard Halverson, and all of his Aunts and Uncles.  
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 with a visitation from 9:30a.m. – 12:30p.m. with the service to immediately follow. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Boscobel.   Pastor Peter Heide and Pastor Sandra Schieble to officiate. Military services will be conducted by the Blake-Semrad American Legion Post # 134, and the Gilbertson Pitzer Radley VFW Post#10393 both of Boscobel.  Online condolences can be sent to www.kendallfuneralservice.com  the Kendall Funeral Service in Boscobel is assisting the family.
