Ardith Elaine (Ardie) Sander, 85 of Boscobel passed away on September 17, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fennimore after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born December 21, 1932 in Citron Valley, rural Steuben, the third child of Alton and Mildred (Ward) Fortney. She married William Sander on March 24, 1954 at the Salem United Methodist Church in Eastman, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2017. Bill and Ardie farmed together on Niland Ridge between Wauzeka and Steuben, until retiring and moving to Boscobel in 2005.
She is survived by three daughters: Sue (Greg) Hurda, Boscobel; Janet (Rob) Lathrop, Boscobel; Judy Lange, Prairie du Chien and one son: Fred (Tammy) Sander of Boscobel.
Twelve grandchildren: Tyan (Bill) Hying, Muscoda; Kaylee Hurda (John Paetz), Boscobel; Kyle (Vicki) Sander, Boscobel; Elisha (Jason) Jaedike, Plain; Delaine Hurda, Cannon Falls, MN; Kristin Sander, Blue River; Kari Sander, Boscobel; Brianna (Kenny) Schumacher, Madison; Danielle Lathrop, Winona, MN; Karl (Kayla) Sander, Boscobel; Bridgette Lange (Dalton Hardy), Cadott; Kasey (Chelssi) Lathrop, Boscobel and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Sisters: Marion Austin, Laughlin, NV and Celia (Don) Rose, Prairie du Chien. Brother: Stan (Bonnie) Fortney, Boscobel. Sisters-in-law : Wilma Rounds, Boscobel; Lena Tainter, Gays Mills; Irene Cudney, Beloit; Alma Schleicher, Cassville; Mary (Jinx) Walters, Wauzeka; Emily (Jim) Jeglum, Reeseville; Teresa Sander, Steuben and Phyllis Sander, Wauzeka. Brothers-in-law: John Sander, La Crosse; Jim Sander and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Arlene Caldwell and Audrey Walker, brothers LeRoy Fortney and Bernard Fortney, and two great-grandsons, Miles Davis and Donovan Sander.
Ardith was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for large family gatherings. Everyone loved her chicken and noodles, Swiss steak, potato salad, taco salad, and homemade pies. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bingo, and “going to the boat.” Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Century Hall in Wauzeka. Pastor Lance Wetter officiating. Burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery.
