Nancy L. Bessel, age 47 of Excelsior, passed away while surrounded by family on Friday July 15, 2016 at Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse.  She was born on July 29, 1968 in Richland Center, Wisconsin.  Nancy was the beautiful daughter of Lonnie Hisel and Annie (Oman) Slaughter, loving wife to John Bessel (11-11-2011), caring mother to Samantha and Neight Mindham and step-mother to Tiffany Bessel, benevolent sister to Jess and Jaime Hisel, nurturing grandmother to Payton Wiest and step grandmother to Morgan and Mason Bessel.

Nancy was an avid and successful pool player with a 2nd, a 4th, and a 7th place finishes in singles event at the state pool tournaments, two 1st, two 3rd, a 5th, and a 7th place finish in team events at the state pool tournaments, and even won a national title in Las Vegas playing in the team event. Many of these accomplishments were witnessed by her son Neight and her number 1 cheerleader; her mother Annie. Annie traveled to most of the tournaments with Nancy just to watch, sometimes with only a few days of notice for a 5 day trip to the state tournaments. Annie could always be found by Nancy where ever she went in the pool room. Nancy’s ultimate goal was to eventually become a master pool player. This dream was realized this year when her team and she won the Stansfield tournament earning her the master title she worked so hard to receive.

Nancy also enjoyed Harley rides with her husband John where they would ride for hours.

Nancy enjoyed working on her home. She worked for two years and took great pride in the renovations she made to her house, especially the deck that she built with help from her mother Annie and son-in-law Travis Jerrett.

Nancy loved being a grandmother to Payton, son to Samantha. She loved nothing more than babysitting every opportunity she could for Samantha, and Payton loved his time he got with his na-na.

Above all though, Nancy enjoyed being a friend. She enjoyed nothing more than to be there for others who often relied on her as their go-to for a vent, advice, or just a friendly listening ear. She made friends easily and held friends indefinitely.

It was with shock and sadness I heard of the passing of Nancy. I met her while playing Kingdoms of Camelot and we became friends. She helped me several times when life got to be to much for me. Although I did not know her long I grew to treasure her friendship. I know she is in a better place but she will be missed badly in this life.

To they family of Nancy I am so very sorry to hear of her passing on . I Waited on her a lot at my job and enjoyed her quirky sense of humor. No words can soften the heart ache you feel . Just losing a family member myself I can relate to the disbelief. You are in my heart and Prayers

I am so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing. I have many fond memories of playing pool with her in the old house in Avoca and growing up together and being in school together all those years. She is up in Heaven with Scotty racking up the balls. My thoughts are with you as you go through this difficult time.

I am so shock and saddened to hear this, I cannot express the pain and sadness I am feeling for you and your family. She was such a beautiful little girl that I remember babysitting for every weekend oh so many years ago. I remember when she got up to sing with Lonnie once when you played at Club, she had such a beautiful voice. May the God of mercy be at your side and hold you dear to his heart. I am sorry for your loss. Nancy and Scottie are together again. Love to you both. Carol

I knew Nancy Bessel as "Nanner". Sadly I knew her only through her social network (but through that for years). I will remember her as a kind, witty person who effortlessly made every one of our conversations humorous and warm. My condolences to the Bessel family. I am very, very sorry for your loss.
