Ruby E Derrickson 93, of Boscobel, passed away November 10, 2015, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
She was born on May 17, 1922 to Lossie and Hilda Halverson-Couey rural Excelsior (Westfork) in Crawford County. She graduated from Blue River High School in 1940. She married Francis Derrickson on October 21, 1941 in Dubuque Iowa. She worked different jobs while he served three years in Europe during World War II. They owned and operated a grocery store in Excelsior and later bought a farm at Sand Prairie, rural Blue River and lived there for ten years. She also served on the Sand Prairie School Board. They moved to Blue River in 1963 where she worked as postal clerk and was appointed Postmaster in 1971 and retired in 1982. She was a member of the Byrds Creek Ladies Aide, Blue River United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. They spent many enjoyable winters in Port Charlotte, Florida. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.
She is survived by four children, Don (Janeth) Derrickson, Magnolia, Arkansas, Sandra Lester, Gays Mills, Shirley (Howard) Drake, Boscobel and Nancy of Shullsburg. Nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Rozanna Gerdman of Baileys Harbor. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis on June 24, 2009, a great-granddaughter Hope Reilley, her brother Forrest Couey and her twin sister Ruth Derrickson and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, November 27, and a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at the Kendall Funeral Home, Boscobel. Burial will be in the Blue River Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Tuffley Senior Center.
Memorials may be given to the Blue River Rescue Squad, Boscobel Rescue Squad or the Tuffley Center. The Kendall Funeral Service is assisting the family.
