The ranks of the old neighborhood may be thinning, but the memories are strong. It is sad to lose those we love, but it is important to remember how blessed we were in the time we had together and in how much we loved and were loved by those around us. What fun we all had!

Dear Cousins,
I am so very, very sorry to learn of Iris's passing. I fondly remember meeting her and going to her home in 2003. I had looked forward to getting back some day, to spend more time with my distant family. Iris was so sweet and so lively. I think of her as a bright light. I wish you peace.

As Deb Stenner said, I agree it was such a great neighborhood growing up. I don't remember Iris as much as the others from growing up but sure do remember her in our Blue River area. Always happy and smiling with a heart of gold. I know she suffered through some very tough times but was also waiting for the day she could see those loved ones she lost. We all should be glad for the time we have here and hold on to the memories. God bless all those mourning now.

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. Seems not that long ago we were all on the farms of the old Homer Neighborhood growing up. Time passes so quickly it seems. I will, as all others with messages here, remember your Mom with a gracious smile and a hearty laugh. May these wonderful qualities and the many fond memories you have see you through this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My mom and dad, Anne and Lawrence Hopkins, met Iris when they were stationed at the Army Depot in Granite City, IL in the 1950's and mom and dad visited them several times when they moved back home. Mom died in 2010 of Alzheimers and dad had a stroke in 2013. But we kept in touch through Christmas cards. I was so sad to hear of Iris' death. My thoughts are with the family.
