William "Bill" E. Groom, age 85 passed away on Friday September 13, 2013. He was born on July 20, 1928 in Steuben Wisconsin. The son of Enoch and Maude (Lomas) Groom. He married Ruth Waller, and later married Gloria Tamayo in May of 1986 in Prairie du Chien Wisconsin. Bill was Navy veteran, and after his discharge he enlisted into the Army reserve's from 1952 to 1955. Bill retired from Oscar Mayer as a mechanic and union steward. He enjoyed deer hunting and wood working. He was always mechanically inclined and liked to fix,build, and create unique things. He is best known by family and friends as a great storyteller. He was not always right,but never wrong. He is survived by his wife Gloria Groom of Moline Illinois. 1 daughter Connie Gregg of Davenport IA. 3 sons Richard Groom of Davenport IAA., Rick (Barb) Groom of Prairie du Chien, Mick (Kathy) Groom of Hutchinson Ks. 14 Grandchildren 27 Great-Grandchildren. 1 Brother Richard (Donna) Groom of Davenport IAA. 2 sister in laws: Madonna Groom of Steuben, Marilyn Groom of Boscobel. He is also survived by his beloved bird "Elijah". He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers Claire, Jack, Donald, Harry, Tom Groom. 2 sisters Cleo Martin, Marie Daugherty. 1 grandson Joshua Groom.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Pastor Chuck Miller officiating. Burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 P.M.at Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M.Military honors will be accorded by the Daugherty-Larson American Legion Post # 443 of Steuben.
