Arlene Lavetta Mayne, age 74, of Wauzeka, WI, passed away on Dec. 4, 2017, at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI, surrounded by her family. Arlene was born on Jan. 12, 1943, in Mt. Ida Township, WI, to Ervin and Leata (Staskal) Hardy. She grew up on a farm in Grant County and graduated from Boscobel High School.
Arlene married Melvin Mayne on Jan. 14, 1962, in Boscobel, WI. They lived in Kenosha, WI, for many years, where they raised three sons. Arlene worked for Gateway Technical College for over 20 years. She made many dear friends in Kenosha, with whom she remained close throughout her life.
In 1991, Arlene and Melvin moved back to the Boscobel area to reside on the Mayne family farm on Boydtown Hollow Road in Marietta Township. Arlene worked for several years at Milk Specialties. Arlene loved birds, flowers and gardening, and she often used items grown in her garden to make beautiful crafts. She also loved travelling, especially her trips to England and Ireland. Arlene was a wonderful cook and baker and a gracious and welcoming hostess. She was active in her book club and at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boscobel. Arlene cherished her children and grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Arlene is survived by her husband Melvin; son Troy and daughter-in-law Sally of Middleton, WI, and their children Ellis and Celia, who attend college in Seattle, WA, and New Orleans, LA, respectively; son Eric and daughter-in-law Mary and their children Callum and Niamh of Elm Grove, WI; a brother Gary (Karen) Hardy; a sister Marlene (Larry) Wetter; sisters-in-law Marilyn Hardy, Jeanette Hardy and Carol (Rick) Cass; brothers-in-law Dean Sedgwick and John Anderson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Kent; her parents Ervin and Leata Hardy; two brothers Ervin Jr. and Lloyd Hardy; her parents-in-law Earl and Ann Mayne; and two sisters-in-law Jeanette Anderson and Eldeen Sedgwick.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 208 Mary Street, Boscobel, WI, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017. The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charles Koester officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Boscobel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the staff at the Meriter Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care of Arlene.
