Woodrow Taylor Bolander, “Woody”, age 100 ½, of Pasaden, MD died in Aiken, SC at the home of his daughter Susan and son in law Donald Swindler where he resided since 2003.
He was born on December 18, 1912, in Baltimore, and lived in Pasadena, MD for 61 years. He attended Southern High School and Polytech Institute. He was a steamfitter for 23 years at the Coast Guard yard in Curtis Bay, MD, and headed up the apprentice program mentoring young men learning the pipefitting trade.
He loved sports and was known as Terpman 2 as he was an avid fan of University of MD basketball. He coached his son, grandsons, and adults in basketball and baseball and enjoyed playing tennis in his mid seventies. He had a green thumb in gardening and preferred the outdoors as boating, crabbing, and fishing were among his many hobbies.
He attended Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore and was baptized, confirmed, and married there. He and his late wife Doris were married for 68 years.
Survivors include his son, William Bolander, of MD; his daughter Susan Swindler of Aiken, SC; one sister Eurith Irwin of Georgia; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM.
