Mrs. Hazel Keen, a 102 year old resident of Trenton, passed away at 10:27 PM Tuesday June 28, 2011 at the Wright Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since June 22, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Trenton. Rev. Denny Chesnut and Mrs. Keen’s great grandson, Daniel Ferris Born will officiate. A Eulogy will be given by Jana Ferris. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens at Trenton. Scheduled family visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Mrs. Keen was born on July18, 1908 at Clarence, MO the daughter of Harry (Henry) Wilson and Mary Alice White Orr. She attended a country school at Clarence and after the 8th grade she attended and graduated from the Salisbury Public School. She then attended Chillicothe Business College. Upon graduation she went to work for Swift & Company in Clarinda, IA before transferring to Trenton, MO. On January 14, 1929 she was married to Churchill Loren ( C.L. “Keeno”) Keen at Trenton, MO. He preceded her dying on February 24, 1966. Mrs. Keen was keeping books for the family business, Keen Fed and Coal Company in Trenton when she applied for a job with the State of Missouri. She began working as a secretary and clerk at the County welfare office in 1950. She was promoted to caseworker in 1963 and she retired on July 31, 1975 at 67. After she retired she attended Trenton Junior College and graduated later with 33 credit hours.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, for many years she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the BPW club, 99 Club, Eastern Star, past president of the Shrine Ladies Club, the Sew and So Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, had been a committee woman for the Democrat party in Grundy County and also a member of the State of Missouri Century Club.
Mrs. Keen is survived by two daughters, Sharon Ferris of Trenton, MO, Sonna Winter of Jefferson City, MO, and a son-in-law, Billie Young of Green City, MO; 10 grand children, 19 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Carol Young in 2003 and a brother, Hollis Orr and a sister, Helen Vasser, sons-in-laws, Joe Ferris and Edward Winter.
