Elizabeth Ann Newkirk of Chesapeake, Virginia died peacefully in her home December 6, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 69 years old.

A scheduled visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Graveside services will be held directly after the visitation at Trenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Elizabeth was born on October 6, 1947 in Trenton, Missouri to Carl Newkirk and Hazel Nadine Newkirk (née Sherrow). After the sudden passing of her father, her mother remarried Henry Bowers who ultimately settled the family to Emporia, KS via Kansas City, MO.

Left to cherish Elizabeth's memory are her two children, Nicholas Gadino III of Americus, KS and Rebecca Nash (Weaver) and her husband Wyatt Nash of Chesapeake, VA. Elizabeth is also survived by her four siblings; Sharon Horn (Newkirk) and her husband Gene, Gary Newkirk, Terry Bowers, Robert Bowers; two grandsons, Alex Gadino and Sean Weaver; two granddaughters, Kelsi and Niki Gadino; one great granddaughter, Kyli Wright; her niece, Jennifer and nephew, Brian.

Elizabeth was predeceased in death by her father, Carl Newkirk, her mother, Hazel Nadine Sherrow, as well as her step-father, Henry Bowers, and Robert Marcellus.

Elizabeth dedicated her life to nursing, finding her calling in medical foster care. Her long term foster son, Dustin Baldwin, was with her for fifteen years. Elizabeth has left behind a legacy of family history in genealogy, developing her curiosity into a lifelong passion to trace her roots.

My condolences to Elizabeth's family. I worked with her as a case manager for Dustin. She was dedicated, hard-working, and a strong advocate for her foster son. I have missed both of them since she moved and was saddened to hear of her death.

Elizabeth was truly a very loving, and caring lady. I first met her when Dustin was very young assisting with his medical supplies. We had many long talks which I will cherish. Sending thoughts and prayers to her family. She was a wonderful lady.
