Robert “Bob” Gallup, a 94 year old Trenton, MO resident passed away at 12:53 a.m., Thursday, September 08, 2016 at Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 12, 2016 at Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton. A visitation is scheduled from 4:00 until 6:00 Sunday evening at Resthaven Mortuary. Open visitation will begin at noon Saturday. Memorial donations are suggested in lieu of flowers to Hodge Presbyterian Church, North Central Missouri College, or the Wright Memorial Hospital Foundation and left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Robert Edward Gallup was born June 1, 1922 in Trenton, MO to Benjamin William and Frances Elizabeth (Brown) Gallup. He graduated from Trenton High School and Trenton Jr. College where he was on the basketball team. Bob then went on to receive a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Missouri Columbia and a meteorology degree from the University of Chicago. During WWII Bob served with the Army Air Corp. where he flew a plane on meteorological missions to determine the weather prior to troop deployment. On August 22, 1949 he was united in marriage to Helen Virginia Holt in Columbia, MO. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2011. For almost 30 years Bob owned and operated Trenton Transit Mix. After retiring from the concrete business, he and his buddy, Bill Ausmus, owned an antique store in downtown Trenton for several years. He was a member of Hodge Presbyterian Church, Rotary and served on many boards including the Foundation Board for N.C.M.C. and Wright Memorial Hospital Board. He was also a troop 97 Eagle Scout, Sea Scout, a Mic-O-Say member, and a Boyscout leader.
Surviving relatives include his daughter Ann Constant and husband Bruce of Trenton, son Ben Gallup and wife Renetta of Columbia, grandchildren Rachel Sides and husband Ty of Hallsville, MO, Sarah Harris and husband Chris of Kansas City, MO, Darcy Oetting and husband Kevin of Platte City, MO, Rob Gallup of Columbia, MO, and Megan Smith and husband Chris of Dardenne Prairie, MO, great grandchildren Addison and Jackson Sides, Jared and Landon Harris, Connor Oetting, and Owen Smith. He is also survived by his many Hoffman cousins.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, wife, and a sister Betty Gallup Scott.
