Steve Towns, an 83 year old Trenton, MO resident, passed away peacefully at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Hodge Presbyterian Church in Trenton. A family visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to service time at the church. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Edinburg I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Steve was born on March 1, 1933 in Harrison County, MO the son of Francis Loren and Elizabeth Mae (Peery) Towns. He graduated from Trenton High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed in the state of Washington and Alaska where he was in Operation North Star during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Sara Jeniene Nighthart on August 20, 1953. Following his discharge from the Army, he farmed his entire life. He was an active member within the Hodge Presbyterian Church, served on the board of the Washington Township of Grundy County, and a member of the American Legion.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather. He was highly respected within the farming community and always helped others in any way he could. The memories he created with his family on the farm will always be cherished in their hearts and his legacy will live on through them. He lived his life how God would want him to and always thought of others in the same light.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Jeniene Towns of Trenton, MO; a son, Mark Towns and his wife, Rhonda of Trenton, MO; a daughter, Tonda Ransdell and her husband, Mike of Trenton, MO; a sister, Marilyn Tracy and her husband, Charles of Laredo, MO; a grandson, Monte Benton of Las Vegas, NV; two granddaughters, Lisa Moore of Nixa, MO and Leslie Kimzey and her husband, Travis of Freeport, FL; one step granddaughter, Brandi Wilson and her fiance’ Tony McGinnis of Nixa, MO; two step grandsons, Bradley Wilson of Spickard, MO and Michael Ransdell and his wife, Melissa of Kansas City, MO; eight great grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell Leon Towns and Francis Leroy Towns; two sisters, Betty Rose Cooksey and Ruth Elaine Barnes; a nephew, Stephen Leo Cooksey; and a niece, Donna Matthews.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Hodge Presbyterian Church, they can be left at or mailed to Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer St., Trenton, MO 64683.
