Edith Elaine (Clark) Welch, a 95 year old Trenton, Missouri resident, passed away at 7:50 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Edith was born on July 6, 1920 in Edina, Missouri to James Patrick and Mary Mable (Kriegshauser) Clark. She was the fourth of five siblings. Edith was united in marriage to Olen A. “Bill” Welch on November 18, 1945. They made their home in Trenton where Bill co-owned and operated Automatic Music Company. Edith helped Bill with the business while raising their five children.
Edith was a lady of grace and kindness. She lived her faith and lovingly passed it along to her husband and children. She shared her musical gifts with her family and her church throughout her life. From playing and singing in a little group during the war years, to singing in St. Joseph’s church choir and leading its children’s choir, to playing piano for fellow residents at Living Community, Edith encouraged others to love music, especially her children. Edith was also a talented seamstress and made countless dresses and costumes for her four girls.
Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, on March 10, 2006. They lived their entire married life in Trenton and made life-long friends through Task Club and St. Joseph’s Church. They lived their faith by helping the community through Meals on Wheels and caring for the elderly and many unnoticed acts of kindness.
Mrs. Welch was the last remaining sibling of her Clark family, preceded in death by her parents, and four siblings as well as one step grandson.
She is survived by four daughters and one son: Elaine Campbell and husband John of St. Joseph, Mo., Shirlene Zipp and husband Steve of St. Joseph, Mo., Mary Welch Rogers of Atlanta, Ga., Mark Welch and wife Pam of St. Joseph, Mo., and Marlena Day of St. Joseph, Mo., twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
The mass for Christian burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM on in Trenton Monday, June 13, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed starting at 10:30 AM, prior to the mass. Burial will immediately follow the mass at Resthaven Memorial cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.
Memorials and contributions are suggested to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Trenton or Mosaic Hospice in St. Joseph, Mo

My dear friends, Just a few days ago Jesus comforted Edith with these words in John 14:1-4 "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in Me. In my Fathers house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go and prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And I know the way where I am going."
There is a joy in knowing that Edith walked into eternal bliss with Jesus her Savior. Still your loss is greatly felt as you no longer have her within your sight. I pray Gods comfort as you grieve.
Thank you for sharing her with me in her last few years of life. My life will be forever changed by a woman who modeled Christ in her very life.
Much love in Christ Jesus. Chaplain Cheri Dedman
