Doris (Gates) Kennedy, a 92 year-old Trenton resident, passed away at 3:15 PM on Thursday, August 6th, 2015th at the Blue Hills Rest Home in Independence, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12th, 2015 at the First Christian Church in Trenton, MO. Pastor Mike Moore will officiate. Burial will be in the South Evans Cemetery, north east of Trenton.

Mrs. Kennedy was born on November 12th, 1922 in Trenton, MO the daughter of Prince and Mabel (Carpenter) Gates, both of Trenton, MO. She was married to Michael Roller Kennedy on July 28th, 1940 in Trenton, MO; he preceded her in death on October 28th, 1975. They owned and operated Kennedy Auto Supply which is still in operation.

Doris served as a 4-H leader, a North Central Missouri Fair Board member, Master Gardener, Grundy County Museum-Baker School board member, was a member of the Grundy Country Genealogical Society and recently earned her 65 year award as a Grundy County FCE Go and Learn Club. Doris was also a life-long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she worked many dinners when the Christian Church was newly constructed to raise money for the church's kitchen and continued to serve the church as both a Deacon and an Elder. Doris loved life and was loved by many and the family looks forward to sharing memories with those whose lives she touched.

Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her daughter, Lana Snider of Independence, MO; three grandchildren, Michael Snider and wife Kim of Belleville, IL, Mitchell Snider and Saleana of Buckner, MO, and Angela Snider and Tom of Shawnee, KS; two great-grand children, Austin and Rachel of Belleville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Gates; a daughter, Janice Kennedy Decker; and son in-law, Charles Grant Snider.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grundy County Museum or the First Christian Church “Kitchen Fund.” They can be left at or mailed to Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, 813 Custer, Trenton, MO 64683.

Lana and family,
So sorry to hear the loss of your mom. I remember her (and your entire family) very well thru 1st Christian Church and thru horses. These are fond memories. Please know that others are thinking of you, and sending love, hugs, and prayers across the miles.

Doris was such a wonderful person. My family so enjoyed her when they lived across the street. She always had a smile on her face. I hope I have the energy in life that Doris had - she was a real go getter.
