Dr. Forrest Curtis Cox II, an 85 year old resident of Trenton, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, December 05, 2014 at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton. Rev. Barry Boulware will officiate. Open visitation will start after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and a scheduled visitation from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Dr. Cox was born on May 22, 1929 in Trenton, MO the son of Dr. Forrest Curtis I and Lillian Judson (Ritzenthaler) Cox. He graduated from Trenton High School, attended Culver Stockton College, Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, and graduated from University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry in May 1958. He practiced Dentistry in Trenton for 42 years, from June 1958 to December 2001. He served in the U.S. Navy from January 1952 to December 1953 stationed in Waukegan, Ill and Philadelphia, PA. He was married to Bonnie Fay Wilson on February 5, 1950; she preceded him in death on July 27, 1985. He was married to Betty Ann Scott on March 14, 1999 in Trenton.
His organizations and honors include Missouri Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Academy of Implantology, American Association for Functional Orthodontics, Mid America Orthodontic Society, Licensed Dentist in Missouri and Kansas, Pierre Fauchard Academy, Delta Sigma Delta Honorary Dental Fraternity, International Who’s Who of Intellectuals from Cambridge, England, Who’s Who in the Midwest, the Church Advisory Committee and other various advisory committees for Culver Stockton College, 56 year member of the Major Dale Stepp American Legion Post #31, longtime member of the Trenton Planning and Zoning Committee, Wright Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and Staff Members, 50 year member of the Trenton Masonic Lodge #111 both York and Scottish Rites, Trenton Masonic Chapter #66, Trenton Masonic Council #37, Godfrey de Boullion #24, Member of the Red Cross of Constantine, member of the Moila Shrine Club, St. Joseph, MO, Boy Scouts of America-served as cub master, assistant and Scout Master of Troop #99, honorary Warrior in Tribe of Mic-O-Say, for many years he conducted Eagle Scout Award Ceremonies throughout north Missouri, served as Deacon and Elder in the First Christian Church of Trenton, and currently a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Trenton.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Cox of Trenton, MO; a son, Dr. Paul Curtis Cox and his wife, Barbara of Trenton, MO; a daughter, Cathie Sue Lowrey and her husband, Mike of Trenton, MO; grandchildren, Amy Ann Lowrey Madden and her husband, Andy, Kerry Lee Lowrey and his wife, Becky, Dr. Andy Cox and his wife, Holly; great grandchildren, Emma Hoyt-Lowrey, Oakley Ana Madden, Samuel Jace Lowrey; a brother, Joseph L. Cox and wife, Lois of Topeka, KS; nieces, Marti Anderson and her husband, LaRae, and Margaret Jarvis; nephews, Bruce Knudsen and his companion, Khim, Steve Knudsen and his wife, Kelly; a local sister in law, Barbara Knudsen; step children, Dan Scott and his wife, Trina of Joplin, MO, Cindy Schooley and her husband, Mike of Columbia, MO, Jeff Scott and his wife, Sally of Des Moines, IA, and Christy Huggins and her husband, Mike of Columbia, MO; step grandchildren, Alison Roach and her husband, Stephen, Grant Schooley, Phillip Scott and his fiancé, Kenzie, Patrick Scott and his fiancé, Jo, and Olivia and Eli Huggins; and a step great grandchild, Grace Roach.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Shane Lowrey.
