Thelma Charlene Vance, a 77 year old former Trenton, MO resident, passed away at 2:32 a.m., Monday, August 04, 2014 at Covenant Place of Lenexa, KS.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.  Rev. Denny Chesnut will officiate.  A scheduled visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton.
Mrs. Vance was born on August 12, 1936 in Trenton, MO the daughter of Charles and Thelma (Flesher) Skinner. She grew up in the First Baptist Church in Trenton, the Skinner family had been members of the church for many generations.  She was married to James H. “Al” Vance on December 28, 1958; he preceded her in death on November 29, 2009. She graduated from William Jewel College and was an elementary teacher in the Kansas City, KS public school system for over 25 years.
Surviving relatives include her son, Randy Vance and his wife, Jona of Lenexa, KS; a sister, Marge Wingerd of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Wilma Skinner of Anderson, SC, Barbara Skinner of St. Joseph, MO and Bonnie Rosenstangle of Sunrise Beach, MO; 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Jacob, and Nicholas; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Bob and Willard Skinner; and an infant sister.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care; they can be left at or mailed to Resthaven Mortuary, P. O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
