Lawrence E. Shirley, an 85 year old Brimson, MO resident, passed away at 9:40 a.m., Friday, October 08, 2010 at Crestview Home in Bethany, MO.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Coon Creek Baptist Church. A scheduled family visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 Monday evening at the Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. Burial will be in the Edinburg I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Edinburg, MO. Open visitation will begin at noon on Sunday
Mr. Shirley was born December 28, 1924 in Butterfield, MO to L.L. “Dick” and Goldie Gladys Boylan Shirley. He attended school at Brimson and Trenton. On July 15, 1954 he was united in marriage to Nola Gene Hudson in Laredo, MO. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1999. Mr. Shirley was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, the Trenton Archery Club, C.B. Club and Civil Defense. He was a saved Christian. Lawrence was a handyman by trade but also an inventor. He was an avid rock hunter as well as hunted and fished for pleasure and food.
Surviving relatives include his three children, Okel Shirley of Leisure Lake, MO, Bobbie Lavely and her husband, Rick of Spickard, MO, and Stanley Shirley and his wife, Grace of Brimson, MO; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, wife, two sisters Faye Peery and Elsie Terhune, and a granddaughter.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and left with the funeral home.
