V. Lisette (Baugher) Pettit went home to her Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2013 shortly before midnight at Village Hospice in Lees Summit, Mo. after fighting a long battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was born on November 16, 1928 to Warren Durant and Ethel May (Kilburn) Baugher in rural Grundy County, Mo and graduated from Galt High School, Galt, Mo. Lisette was married to Donald L. Pettit on September 14th 1945 and they raised four children. They lived in and around Kansas City since 1951 making their final home on a farm in Lone Jack, Mo.
Lisette was a member of Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church.
Beloved by husband, family and friends, she balanced working, family, and church always active in her children's activities at school, church and extracurricular. She worked as a secretary at American War Dads, Bevron Publishing, Swope Park Methodist Church, and Calvin Productions before working for the IRS as a tax examiner from which she retired in 1993.
Lisette was an accomplished musician playing the piano and organ until April 9 when she went to the hospital. She had been an accompanist at church and other functions since she was 11 years old. It brought her Peace to play. She tried to impart her love of music to her children through instrumental and singing, but the only thing that took was singing. Lisette also was an avid quilt maker. She made quilts of all styles and colors for each of her grandchildren and others. She also enjoyed cooking, canning and gardening. Her Gooseberry pies were a favorite at church auctions..
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald L. Pettit of the home; 4 children, Donald W. Pettit and wife, Cheryl, of Simpsonville, SC; Cheryl Ann Bates of Lone Jack, Mo.; Thomas R. Pettit and his wife, Becky, of Lone Jack, Mo.; and, Ricky L. Pettit of Austin, TX; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Lisette was the youngest of 9 children and was preceded in death by all her siblings
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, at the Lake Lotawana Community United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 7-8pm on Wednesday, May 8, at the church, 28901 Colbern Road, Lake Lotawana, Mo. . Graveside services will follow at Berry Cemetery located in Myers Township north of Galt, Mo. off Route J at about 5pm. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers have been suggested to either the Lake Lotawana Community Methodist Church or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Association.
