Eugene Chambers, an 82 year young resident of Columbia, MO and former Trenton, MO resident, passed away at his residence on Friday evening, February 15, 2013, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Grundy Center United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Grundy Center Cemetery. A scheduled family visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Resthaven Mortuary.
Mr. Chambers was born on May 7, 1930 in Trenton, MO the son of Roy and Bessie (Scott) Chambers. He was married to Mary Carpenter on August 14, 1949 at the Grundy Center United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Grundy Center Church. He spent most of his life in the farming and trucking industries. He enjoyed woodworking often making gifts for his family. One of his hobbies was collecting toy antique tractors and pickups. He and Mary often went to Branson taking in many of the shows at Silver Dollar City. He was an example to those he worked with. His energy, attitude and work ethics spoke volumes about who he was. He loved talking to people, spending time with family and just enjoying life. Towards the end you could often hear him saying: faith, hope and love, the greatest of these is love. This was how he lived his life, with great faith, with great hope and especially with great love.
Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife, Mary Chambers of the home; a son, Jerry Chambers and his wife, Diana of Trenton, MO; a daughter, Cathy Hatfield and her husband, Larry of Columbia, MO; 2 sisters, Letha Henley of Humphreys, MO and Lucille Fletcher of Trenton, MO; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Chambers and his wife, Ashley, Jeremy Chambers and his wife, Robin, Jason Hatfield and his wife, Andrea, Jonathan Hatfield and his wife, Amanda, and Jared Hatfield and his wife, Melissa; and 10 great grandchildren, Austin, Madi, Cora, Kylie, Olivia, Laurel, Peyton, Bentley, Gavin and Paige.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mildred Taylor.
