Freddie Lee Altiser, an 82 year old Newtown, MO resident, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at his home in Newtown.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Newtown Christian Church. The body is to be cremated following the service. A visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 Friday evening at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the Moila Transportation Fund for Children, Newtown Cemetary Association or Newtown Christian Church. Fred Altiser was born December 13, 1929 in Pollock, MO to Ernest and Thelma (Yardley) Altiser. Fred attended country schools, Newtown High School and graduated from Milan High School. He then attended Kirksville College and Weltech College. Fred taught school before working as a welder and working on all of the phases of the Space Program. He also worked for Monsanto in the Astroturf division and later installing security systems in Carefree, AZ. More recently he worked as an OATS bus driver. He served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1951 through 1953. On March 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Faye Nowlin in Carrollton, MO. Fred loved traveling, visiting with family, and gardening. He was well known for sharing his produce with all. In recent years, he took up working with stained glass and made many pieces for family and friends. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, Eastern Star, American Legion and was a Dad for Jobs Daughters and Demolays.
Mr. Altiser is survived by his wife, Faye of the home; Randy Altiser and Russ of Lake Tapawingo, MO; Sheryle Streck and her husband Milton of St Joe., MO; Teresa Altiser and Wayne of Stewartstown, PA; a sister, Cleta Altiser of Unionville, MO; grandchildren, Katrina Shattuck and her husband Brian of St. Joe, MO, Caitlin Streck, and Garrett Streck both of St. Joe, MO; great granddaughter Abigail Shattuck, a special nephew, Marty Altiser of Newtown, MO, numerous nieces and nephews and many more he considered his kids.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, a brother Dean, a sister Fleta Altiser and a special niece Sarah.
