Virgil Brummitt a 78 year old Hickory, MO resident passed away at 9:26 p.m., Sunday, April 03, 2011 at KU Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Shelburne Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Coy-Brummitt Cemetery near Hickory. A visitation is scheduled for 7 to 8 Tuesday evening at Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to the Coy-Brummitt Cemetery.
Virgil Brummitt was born August 24, 1932 in Livingston County, MO the son of Bryan and Bessie Richardson Brummitt. He graduated from Jamesport High School. On January 23, 1955 he was united in marriage to Martha Elaine Street at Shelburne Baptist Church; she preceded him in death September 14, 2009. Virgil retired at Con-Agra after working from 1962 to 1994 where he was affectionately known as “Hoss”. The Brummitt family also owned and operated a Christmas tree farm for many years
Surviving relatives include his three daughters, Linda Brummitt of Hickory, MO; Christy Gildersleeve and her husband Mark of St. Joseph, MO: and Cindy Roach and her husband Johnny of Trenton, MO; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
Those preceding him in death include his parents, wife, a daughter Judy Brittian, and a great grandchild Quillan Dean Cottrell.
