Celia Frances (Witten) Vaughn, aged 78, died peacefully on April 21, 2018 at Wright Memorial Hospital, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Celia was born on October 17, 1939, at home in Spickard, MO, the daughter of Willard and Eula (Crawford) Witten. Celia thoroughly enjoyed her family, with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids being the highlight of her life. Celia graduated from Trenton High School in 1957. On October 17, 1958 Celia married the love of her life William Vaughn, and upon his completion with the army, they moved from El Paso, TX to Trenton. Celia worked for Southwestern Bell both in Texas and Trenton. After returning to Trenton, Celia worked for Dr. Menafee and Dr. Wade and worked for the Trenton, R-9 school district as high school secretary for over 30 years until her retirement in 2000. In addition to raising their two sons, she was also active in the lives of her 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She also volunteered at the local Church Women United Thrift Shop for many years. After retirement Celia was clerk for some various auctioneers in Trenton for many years. She was also an active member of the Trenton Christian Church, Trenton Heritage Club, Eastern Star, Church Women’s United, Christian Church Women’s Circle, and she presented programs to the area on ABC Plate collection and Handkerchief collection.
Celia is survived by her husband of almost 60 years Bill, her sons Andy (Debbie) Vaughn of Chillicothe, MO and Matt (Kim) Vaughn of Columbia, MO. Her grandchildren Katie (Aaron) Rice of Parkville, MO, Chelsie Vaughn of Trenton, MO, Brady (Samantha) Vaughn of Galt, MO, Benjamin and Bayleigh Vaughn of Chillicothe, MO, Ciarra (Eric) Dobbs of Lake Ozark, MO and Luke Fenton of Columbia, MO. Great grandchildren, Hannah, Adisyn and Bently Rice of Parkville, MO. Her sister Jeananne Jones of Trenton, MO and a host of nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
Celia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim Witten, her sisters Mary Witten and Carmen Prewitt, and 2 nephews Craig and Monte Miller.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Trenton. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday. Open visitation will begin at 9:00 Tuesday morning at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church Women’s United Thrift Store or the First Christian Church and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
