Nila Jean Callen an 86 year old St. Joseph, MO resident, passed away at 11:30 p.m., Monday, December 18, 2017 at Carriage Square Nursing Home in St. Joseph.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2017 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening at Resthaven Mortuary. Memorial donations are suggested to the “American Diabetes Association” and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Nila Jean Callen was born August 8, 1931 on a farm in Sullivan County, MO to Ralph and Floy (Riggs) Stokesberry . She graduated from Galt High School in 1949 and attended Bob Jones University for two years. On February 5, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald Duane Callen. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1988. Nila resided in Galt most of her life, until moving to St. Joseph 20 years ago. She was a member of the Galt Christian Church as well as the Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. Her unwavering dedication to her faith made her an inspiration and example of Christ’s love to all who knew her.
Surviving relatives include her daughter Tammie Schneider and husband Al of St. Joseph, son Scotty Callen of St. Joseph, grandchildren, Jake Camp and wife Rachel of Lee’s Summit, MO, Mitch Messner of Salt Lake City, UT, Chris Schneider of Kansas City, KS and Ashley Carpenter and husband Edgar of Temecula, CA, and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Nila is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
