R. Wayne Griffin, an 84 year old former Trenton resident, passed away at 7:32 p.m. on August 19, 2016 at the Livingston Manor Care Center in Chillicothe, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens of Trenton. A scheduled family visitation will be held from 6 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Resthaven Mortuary.
Mr. Griffin was born on April 16, 1932 in Grundy County, MO the son of Hugh Franklin and Vicy Loraine (Dinsmore) Griffin. He was married to Opal Nigh on April 18, 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Ft Riley and spending his time in Iceland. He returned to Trenton and hauled milk for several years, then went to work for the state highway department for a few years. In the early 1970s’ he started his own business, hauling gravel and becoming known as the “Rock Peddler” in his trusty 1973 Chevy named “Old Gold.” He was a member of the First Christian Church in Trenton.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Griffin of the Baptist Home in Chillicothe, MO; a daughter, Toreca and husband, Philip Napton of Drexel, MO; two step grandsons, Clint Napton and his wife, Cathy of Bloomer, WI and Brett Napton and his wife, Jessica of Lee’s Summit, MO; five step great grandchildren, Shane, Megan, Caitlin, Ryan, and Cale; a brother, Warren Griffin and his wife, Vera of Trenton, MO; and a sister.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Wayne Griffin; a granddaughter, Brandie Lynn Shields; and a brother, Richard Griffin.
