Delbert Ray Gentry, an 88 year old resident of Trenton, died in his home on Monday, October 5th.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9th at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church under the direction of Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. at the church.  Pastors Mike Moore and Doug Franklin will officiate.  A private burial will follow at a later date in Edinburg IOOF Cemetery.
Mr. Gentry was born in Trenton on March 31, 1927, son of Forrest B and Mary Adams Gentry.  He attended Edinburg and Trenton schools, graduating from THS in 1945.  He was married to Betty Crawford on November 25, 1948.  Following graduation, he spent one year in the US Army and then returned to Grundy County where he worked at Standard Oil Delivery Services and Hy-Vee before retiring from Trenton Foods after 28 years as the purchasing agent in the parts department.  Along with these jobs, he also farmed the land that has been in his family for over 100 years.
Mr. Gentry was active in First Christian Church D.O.C., where he was a member for 60 plus years.  He was an avid and active member in many bodies of the Masons. He held many offices in the lodge, including Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of the state of Missouri.
Surviving him is his wife, Betty, of the home.  Two daughters, DeAnn Gentry of Columbia and Karen Saul (Melvin) of Trenton.  One son Tim, of St. Joseph.  He had 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter, Brenda Allen, one sister, Donna Powell, and two infant brothers.
Delbert loved the country, his farm, the Masonic Lodge, a good western book, and sports on the television.  He loved his family and has really enjoyed his great grandkids.  He touched many and was loved by them all.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church in Trenton.
