Opal Maxine McHargue, a 97 year old Trenton and former Mercer, MO resident, passed away at 8:10 a.m., Monday, January 12, 2015 at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.  Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lineville, IA.  A visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Grundy County Jewett Norris Genealogy Dept., the Grundy County Museum or the Trenton Park Dept. and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
Opal Maxine McHargue was born September 16, 1917 in Mercer, MO to William Isaac “Ike” and Ruby Faye (Egelston) Cox.  She graduated from Mercer High School and then moved to Kansas City where she received a degree from Kansas City Business College.  On January 28, 1938 she was united in marriage to Lester McHargue in Kansas City.  They returned to Mercer where they farmed until Lester’s death in 1990.  She has lived in Trenton for the last few years to be closer to her family.  “Mac” as she was known to most was a member of the Eastern Star as well as the Lineville Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include her son Dr. Nick McHargue and his wife Cheri of Trenton, grandchildren NiChea Spillman and her husband Jason of Boise, ID, Dr. NiCole Neal and her husband Vince of Trenton and Dr. Nick McHargue and his wife Dr. Karen of Columbia, MO, and 7 great grandchildren Wyatt and Elle Neal, Grady and Grant Spillman, and Rhett, Nolan and Madelyn McHargue.
Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband, and infant brothers William and Isaac Cox.
