Eleanor Marie (Knutson) Hamilton was born on August 16, 1930 in Marshalltown, IA. She was the seventh child of Emil M. and Edna M. (Castor) Knutson. On her home birth, the doctor placed her aside thinking she was still born. The attending mid-wife, Minnie Waddell, noticing that she was still breathing, caressed baby Eleanor thereby saving her life! Her family later moved to Council Bluffs, IA, where she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1948. She worked as a Dental Assistant for Doctor Hollingsworth. Eleanor met William (Bill) Hamilton on a blind date set up by their best and life-long
friends, Jack and Gretchen Minikus. She joined the Holy Catholic Church and they were married on November 19, 1949 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. They bought a small farm in the Council Bluffs area, where they ran a dairy goat farm
In 1963, with seven children, they moved to Missouri and bought a farm in the Jamesport
area. Eleanor and Bill had four more children. They raised their eleven children on
their organic truck farm. She started working at Sunnyview Nursing Home to help care for her mother-in-law there when her mother-in-law could no longer stay with them in their home. She went on to get her CNA and later because of her love for flowers
and gardening become the Horticulturist Specialist in which she helped the residents in botanical therapy. She also was in charge of the shopping for the nursing home residents. Later as their children were grown, Eleanor and Bill also sold vegetables and farm goods at the local farmer's markets.
Eleanor was a wonderful Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her greatest gifts were her kindness, patience, faith and love to all. She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 63 years, William A.
