Linnie Lorraine Whitaker an 87 year old Trenton, MO resident died January, 1, 2013 at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

A visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 Thursday evening at the Whitaker Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.  Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Fairview Christian Church in Iberia, MO.  Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Iberia.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left with the funeral home.

She was born November 22, 1925 at Horton, KS the daughter of Mark and Lena Dell Burke Sooter, she attended grade school in Horton and moved with her parents to Kansas City, MO where she graduated from the East High School in 1943.  She moved with her parents to Eldon, MO in 1947 and was married to Leo G. Whitaker on December 21, 1947.  They lived most of their adult lives in Trenton.

Lorraine had helped her husband at the Gipson Funeral Home before buying it and changing the name to Gipson-Whitaker Funeral Home on Jan. 1, 1961.  They consolidated with Gordon Blackmore at the Davis-Blackmore Funeral Home to form the Blackmore-Whitaker Funeral Home on Oct. 1, 1965.  They bought Gordon’s interest in 1981 and operated that until 1989 when they sold their interest to their son Tim and his wife Patty.  In 1990 they moved to Gravois Mill moving back to Trenton in 1994.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Trenton, Parson Chapter #189 Order of the Eastern Star joining in 1957 and received her 50 yr. Jewel in 2007.  She had served two terms as Worthy Matron, served as District Deputy Grand Matron in 1971 of the old 4th District and was the Worthy Grand Matron of the State of Missouri order of the Eastern Star and active member.

Surviving relatives include her 3 sons Tim and his wife Patty of Trenton, Steve and his wife Louisa of Albuquerque, NM, and Rick and his wife Gilda of Rochester Hills, MI, two sisters, Geneva Varnell and her husband Ray of Eugene, MO and Rayma Nixdorf and her husband Bob of Iberia, MO, a brother Mark Sooter, Jr and his wife Katie of Eldon, MO, 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, husband and a son Tom Whitaker.

So sorry for the loss of a Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother and a wonderful woman many of us recall fondly from growing up together and from church. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.
