Annabel Baugher, 90, ended life on earth at St Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, at 7:25am, Monday, October 3, 2011, from complications of a stroke.

Burial will be in the Half Rock Cemetery.
Imogene Annabel Baker was born April 1, 1921, in rural Sullivan County, Missouri, the daughter of Nelson Miles (N.M.) and Thelma Pickens Baker.  On May 18, 1940, she married Dale Baugher in Princeton, Missouri, her husband of 51 years until his death in 1992.  In 1942 they purchased a farm in the Half Rock community where they spent the rest of their life together.  In 2009, she moved to Trenton after 67 years on the farm.
She spent her formative years enjoying life on farms in the Yellow Creek community South of Green City, Missouri.  Her education began in the rural schools of the area and continued at the Milan High School where she graduated in 1940.  She remained a student the rest of her life as an avid reader, trying new challenges, and traveling.  She was taught to sew and crochet by her mother and later taught herself to knit and quilt.  Initially she sewed to clothe her family and later hand quilted for competition and to leave heirlooms to her family.  She received recognition for her hand quilting at local events, state fairs, and the American Quilters Society in Paducah, Kentucky.  She participated in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Shakespearian Society, and community clubs.
Her Christian life began early at the Yellow Creek Baptist Church.  After being married she became a member of the Half Rock Baptist Church and later transferred to the Galt Baptist Church.  She was a Sunday School Teacher, worked in Vacation Bible Schools, and served and held offices in the Woman’s Missionary Union.
Survivors include two sons:  Vance and Jackie of New London, MO; Loren and Linda of Galt.  Four grandchildren: Vonda and Dana Schnelle of Lees Summit, MO; Vickie and Steve Phipps of Clever, MO; Greg and Molly Baugher of Hannibal, MO; and Laura and Roydon Cox of Hannibal, MO.  Two Great Grandsons:  Daniel Schnelle and Hunter Phipps.  Four sisters:  Martha Sterling and Katherine Ralls of Trenton; Marjorie and John Troy of Parsons, KS; and Mary Oothout of Des Moines, IA.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers: Amil, Dick, and Eddie; a granddaughter:  Louisa Marie Baugher; and a great grandson:  Seth Davidson Schnelle.
The family suggests contributions to the Galt Baptist Church or the Half Rock Cemetery in her memory.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in the loss of your mother and grandmother, sister and friend. What a truly wonderful friend she was and a great teacher and quilter. Michael and I were truly blessed with being able to take her to lunch at the quilt show a year ago and listen to all of her wonderful stories of growing up and her family she was so truly proud of. I will miss our long distance talks we had often through out the year just catching up as well as reminiscing. Her quilts were truly something to behold and I'm sure you will always treasure that small part of her she left behind for all of you to enjoy. Your family was truly blessed with a wonderful Christian woman who has gone home to be with her Lord. He is making a beautiful quilt of his people and he needs his shinning star to help him complete it. You are never ready to let a parent go but when the Lord calls them home, always remember the wonderful times and the things they taught and the advise they gave and you will always have a smile on your face. My thoughts and prayers with quilting hugs are with all of you during this difficult time.

Our family will miss Annabel. Many times I would make the stop by her house when I would come over that way. While often years might go by, I was always welcomed as if I had come every day. I enjoyed her telling stories of the "good ol' days" about my grandmother Doris Baugher-Jackson and her family. I remember coming over one time when my daughter Morgan was a toddler and Annabel made me fish out this old high chair that evidently had been used by many, many family members over many years. That was special because it made me feel like she considered me part of her family and not just a friend. I also enjoyed her upbeat attitude. I will also miss having someone to call when I had a question about our family from years past. More than once I'd call and she'd remember a name or circumstance that would help me complete a puzzle regarding family history. And finally, you can't mention her without thinking of her quilts. When she would come our way for a show, we'd go and check it out. God gives us all a gift and that was her's. I always thought the quilts made by my mother were very symbolic. A quilt keeps us warm, sheltered, and safe from the outside world. Appropriate that Annabel would be so good at making them! God's Blessings. The Van Vleck Family

I am sorry that I did not see this sooner. I took quilting lessons from Annabel and enjoyed so much my weekly visits to her home in the country. She was an amazing person in so many ways and I miss her greatly. I am so proud to have been taught by one of the best quilter's our land has ever seen. Sincerely, Ann Fruits
